WILLIAM H. BEYETTE,
OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
ATTACHMENT FOR DISPLAY-FIGURES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM H. BEYETTE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Display- Figures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to display figures such as are employed in sales rooms and stores for the purpose of displaying garments, the particular purpose of my invention being to provide an attachment which may be removably placed upon the figure in order to display the garment to advanta 'e.
Tiers particularly my invention comprehends an attachment of simple construction and adapted to be cheaply made, and forming especially no part of the display figure itself, but which may be grasped by the operator and quickly placed upon the figure or removed from it, the attachment being provided with means for filling out the sleeves of the garment so as to bring the garment, and particularly the sleeves, into the approximate form in which it would be worn.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation showing a display figure having my improved attachment temporarily upon it, one of the shoulder fillings, however, being removed; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing my attachment as used in connection with a pair of short arm sections; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a different form of arm section adapted for use with my invention; and Fig. 4 is a sect-ion through one of the sleeves provided with fillings for practically enlarging the sleeve and thus causing it to fill out the sleeve of the garment to be displayed.
The arm sections may be of difl erent kinds, and for convenience I show three of these lands designated respectively in the drawings as 5, 5 5*. These arm sections may be made of any desired material, including sheet metal covered with cloth, but in practice I find it convenient to make them of thin tough papier mach covered with cloth.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. August 26, 1911.
Patented Apr. 23, 1912. Serial No. 646,115.
inafter described.
I provide a yoke 7 having a centrally disposed opening 8 and having generally the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The yoke 7 is provided with a vertical opening 7*, which is closed by aid of fastenings. The purpose of this opening 7 is to enable the yoke to be placed upon a figure having a large head. The display figure is shown at 9 and has a neck portion 9 At opposite sides of the yoke 7 I connect two sleeve members, exactlv alike, one of them being shown at 10. Within each sleeve member I place a plurality of sleevefillings 11, 12, preferably two in number, as shown in Fig. 4:. These sleeve fillings are merely webs of cloth, each tucked up at its bottom edge, as indicated in Fig. 1, one of the webs being longer than another. Additional fillings 12 may be added around the portion of the arm representing the elbow, or elsewhere, as desired, to suit the ever varying styles. The result is that adjacent to the shoulder of the figure there are three thicknesses of cloth, whereas lower down, about the middle of the sleeve, there are only two thicknesses, and adjacent to the bottom of the sleeve there is only one thickness of the cloth. The cloth webs constituting the sleeve fillings 11, 12 are wrinkled or crinkled, that is, rendered fluiiy and constructively thick so as to afford a type of padding. This presents the advantage that when a garment is placed upon the figure thus equipped, the sleeve sections 10, in consequence of this filling, will have more or less expansibility or resiliency, and, therefore, will tend to bow outward in the sleeve of the garment to be tested, thus supporting the garment in the approximate position in whichit should be worn. The sleeve fillings 11, 12, are, by stitching 13, secured within the upper end of the sleeve 10.
In cases where I use the sleeve sections shown in-Fig. 3, the bottom edge which is shown at 14; may be connected with an artificial wrist 15. The same is true of the sleeve sections 5 shown in Fig. 1. In this figure two artificial wrists 15, 16, provided respectively with artificial hands 17 are mounted upon the lower ends of the sleeve sections 5.
The operation of my device is as follows: Suppose a salesman wishes to display a garment by aid of the display figure 9 and my attachment. I-Ie places the attachment upon the figure as indicated in Fig. 1 so that the yoke 7 rests upon the shoulders, back and breast of the figure, the neck portion 9 extending upwardly from the opening 8 and the sleeve sections 10 encircling the portions of the arm sections representing the forearm of a person, as will be understood from Fig. 1. The garment is next placed upon the figure. In doing this it is an easy matter to raise the arms, if desired, in order thatthey may be thrust through the sleeves of the garment. The flexibility of the yoke enables the arms to be raised, or otherwise moved into suitable positions to facilitate placing the garment in position. The sleeves of the garment, when finally placed in position, are not unduly puffed out and do not have the appearance of being stuffed. On the contrary they are not baggy and distasteful in appearance, as the filling sec tions 11, 12, together with the sleeve sections 10, fill out the sleeves and adjacent portions of the shoulders of the garment in like manner as if the garment were worn by a person.
I do not limit myself to the precise details of the device, as here shown and described, as such details may be varied within reasonable limits without departing from the spirit of my invention.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An attachment for display figures comprising a yoke to be mounted upon a figure, and a pair of arm sections connected to oppositely disposed portions of said yoke and supported thereby.
2. An attachment for display figures comprising a yoke provided with a central opening for receiving the neck portion of a display figure, said yoke being further provided with arm sections connected withthe opposite edges of said yoke and supported thereby.
3. An attachment for display figures comprising a yoke having suitable conformity to fit upon a figure representing the human body, said yoke being provided with a centrally disposed opening for encircling the neck portion of said figure, a pair of arm sections connected with opposite sides of said yoke and adapted to serve as arms for said figure, a sleeve mounted upon said'yoke and encircling one of said arm sections, and filling members mounted within said sleeve.
I. An attachment for display figures comprising a yoke of suitable conformity to fit upon the upper portion of a figure representing the human body, said yoke being provided with a central opening for encircling the neck of said figure, a sleeve section connected with said yoke, and a plurality of cloth webs mounted within said sleeve and of differentlengths for the purpose of filling out said sleeve.
5. An attachment for display figures comprising a yoke of suitable form to fit upon the upper portion of a figure representing the human body, said yoke being provided with an opening for encircling the neck of said figure, a sleeve connected with said yoke and adapted to encircle an arm of said figure, and a plurality of cloth webs mounted within said sleeve and of different lengths, the texture of said cloth webs being such as to enable them to fill out said sleeve' In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
