By ATTORNEYS ANNA LAURA TRAVISS, OF VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA.
GARMENT-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1907.
A plication filed May 26, 1906. Serial No. 318,842.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA LAURA TRAVISS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Virginia, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Form, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to apparel apparatus, and its object is to provide a new and improved garment form for use in dressmaking establishments, stores, homes and other places, and arranged to display a garment to the fullest advantage, to preserve its shape and to permit of conveniently folding the garment form into comparatively little space when not in use.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement; Fig, 2 is a rear elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a face view of the extended waist pattern, and Fig. 4 is a like view of the extended skirt pattern.
The garment form illustrated in the drawings consists essentially of a waist pattern A and a skirt pattern B, each in the form of a sheet (see Figs. 3 and 4) of strong paper or like flexible material, ca able of being bent to produce the waist or sliirt pattern as llustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. waist pattern A shown in Fig. 3 is cut out at the bottom to form the waist band A, and the sides A are capable of overlapping at the front, and the upper end of the sheet is cut to form the overlapping shoulder portions A A arranged to form the scye and neck openings A and A. The sheet for the waist pattern A is provided with apertures along the margin thereof to permit the use of a suitable lacing C for fastening the overlapping sides A together and also the overlapping shoulder portions A A, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2.
The skirt pattern B is provided with sides B adapted to overlap at the rear of the skirt pattern (see Fig. 2), and the upper portion of the said sheet is provided with slitted The sheet for the waist portions B while the lower end is preferably reinforced by a strip B as indicated in Fig. 4. The overlapping sides B as well as the upper ends of the slitted waist portions B are provided with apertures for receiving a lacing D, to permit of fastening the overlapping sides B together, and for drawing the slitted waist portions B firmly together and over the waist band A of the waist portion A, to securely hold the waist portion A in position on the skirt pattern B, the bottom of which is capable of resting on the floor or other suitable support.
The patterns A and B are made in all the regular sizes of ready made garments, that is, from 32 to 44 inches bust measure, with corresponding waist and hip measures as well as in any other required measures.
When not in use the patterns A and B can be readily unlaced and extended into flat shape, to permit of conveniently storing or shipping the same. It is understood that the waist pattern A and the skirt pattern B can be used separately and independent of each other if desired. By making the patterns, say of fairly stifi paper, they are rendered exceedingly light, can be cheaply manufactured and most accurately proportioned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A garment form comprising a waist and a skirt pattern, each composed of a sheet of flexible material cut to the proper contour, the upper ends of the waist pattern being cut to form overlapping shoulder portions and the upper edge of the skirt pattern being slitted to form a Waist portion, the side edges of the waist pattern and the skirt pattern being provided with eyes for receiving a lacing whereby to secure said edges together after the sheet is bent into proper form, and the adjacent ends of the skirt and waist patterns being provided with registering openings for receiving alacing whereby to secure said patterns together.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANNA LAURA TRAVISS.
