DISPLAY-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1906.
Application filed May 15. 1905. Serial No. 260,470.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE GALLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful 1m rovements in Display- Forms; and I do dec are the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved display-form adapted for use in stores and storewindows for artistically and attractively displaying garments; and it consists in a form made of cardboard or other fiat material cut in the size and shape of the human figure and adapted to have an article or articles of clothing fitted thereon for the purpose of attractively displaying the same, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display-form embodying my improvements, showing the same draped with a arment to display the same. evation of the form;.and Fig.
3 is a sectional view of the same, taken on the plane indicated by the line a a of Fig. 2 and showing the supporting-flap which serves to support the form in a substantially perpendicular position.
My improved display-form 1 is a figure made of cardboard or other suitable flat material, showing the head, neck, shoulders, bust, and hips of a life-sized human figure. The same is preferably lithographed or otherwise ornamented in natural colors. The position of the face of this figure is such as to show the side lines of the-neck evenly. The shoulders of the figure are bothof the same height and breadth, and the side lines of the waist and hips are exactly regular and uniform, so that when the figure is draped with a garment and the latter is filled out with a stuffing of paper or other suitable material the garment will appear to be perfectly fitted on the figure and will be attractively displayed. The form presents the side lines of the human figure, and the bust and back lines may be obtained by the d ecor ator or windowdresser by appropriately stufling the garments on one or both sides of the form with paper or other suitable filling material. On the back of the form at the center thereof is a supporting-flap 2, which is hingedly connected, as at 3, to the form and which may be folded fiat against the form when the latter is not in use or may be extended at right angles thereto to bear on the floor or counter or other object on which the form is mounted in order to support the form in an upright position. The outer edge of this supporting-flap is shaped to correspond with the waist and hip lines or curves of the figure, so as not to interfere with or distort the outlines of the shape of the figure. The usual wax and other manufactured figures are made in such forms and shapes that they can be used only in certain few positions and under certain conditions. The purpose of this invention is to su ply the window and store decorator a nove means for and method of artistically and attractively displaying garments and materials for same in such positions and manner as is not possible otherwise, the, light weight of the figure and its fiat shape ermitting of attachment on walls, pillars, shelves, lines, counters, chairs, lounges, &c., in showwindows and throughout store and show rooms. Its shape also permits of artistic and life-like portrayal of the human features in natural colors, thus avoiding all stiff, cold, and uncanny a pearance.
Having thus escribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described display-form comprising the flat figure representing the face and having side lines forming the outlines of the head, neck, shoulders, upper portions of the arms, bust and hips of a human figure,
said side lines corresponding in size and shape In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- \nesses.
