Description

Nov. 3, 1953 l. P. SMITH 2,657,842
GARMENT DISPLAY FORM Filed June 6, 1950 'lill QTTOR/VEV Patented Nov. 3, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT oEFicE 2,657,842 GARMENT DISPLAY FORM Irene P. Smith, Needham Mass., assignor to The William Carter Company, Needham Heights, Mass., a corporation of Massachusetts Application June 6, 1950, Serial No. 166,337 3 Claims. (Cl. 223-68) This invention relates to a display form particularly useful in the merchandising display of garments. It has for an object the provision of Fig. 4 is an enlarged detailed cross-sectional i view taken along the line 4 4 of Fig. 1,
nightgowns, etc., the figure shown in the drawing has a headand neck-forming element, and armand leg-forming elements molded or cut from sheets of such plastic material. Desirably,
In the drawings, the transparent material thus comprises four pieces, a headand neck-forming element I 0, arms I2 and I4, and leg portion I6. The remaining parts include a torso and base frame or standard 22.
The torso 20 is adapted to receive and hold the the outline transparent sheet material. The upper edge of the torso 20 is provided with a slot-like recess 25 which receives an extending portion 26 of the head-forming element I0. Similarly, the side edges of the torso 20 are provided adjacent the upper ends with recesses 28 for receiving exis another layer of plywood having the full outline of the torso 20. In this manner, both the head-forming element recess 25 and the arm recesses 28 are simultaneously formed during the as far as blocks 40, as well as along the side edges. The leg-forming element I 6, torso 20 and headforming element I0 are thus joined with mortisejoints.
Since the arm-forming elements I2 and I4 extend downwardly, it is necessary to provide some piece bifurcated leg-forming element I 6 out of its normal plane in order to give the structure more rigidity.
garment, than the neck of the garment may be passed over the head. Likewise, the arms may" be inserted through the armhoies or sleeves after the garment has been placed over the torso.
Thus placed, garments, such as shirts, nightforming element 20.
One should note that rbecause of the manner of joining the various elements, there are no protruding fastenings or joints` which might become misaligned and, thereforethere ls-nothing to catch a Ygarment as it is placed over the torso or legs or to hamper the -free and straight hanging of the garment on the form being dis played;
A desirable advantage of the'provisionV of the top semi-circular cut-out 2l in the torso `2li is that Ahanger labels,l conventionally providedfon the inner sidevof the 4back neck portion. of a garment, are visible through the transparent head-forming element extension 26 and thus display the trade mark, maker-'s' name, modelnumber, size or whatever else appears1 on-thelabel-,'to the Vviewing public.
While the embodiment shown inthe drawings includesfmany advantageous features Aas `-above described, it will beUunder-stood-that certain of the individual'featuresmay be utilized `inthe absence oi other of thelfeatures while-still 'appropriating the invention.`
I claim:-
1. AV display: formfor garments comprising heacl,` armand bifurcated-'-legforming ele ments of substantially ffiat; relatively stidftraniifv parent sheet materiali` havingroutlinesA along their edge portions simulating thefhead; arms and legs, respectively, ofv a human'figure, and'a dat torso -of slightly greater thickness thanthe thickness -of 'said sheet material Vadaptedto supe port said headand arm-formingiementsfand to be supported-by said fles-forming elements` said torso having alongeits'top, side `and bottom edge portions slot-like recesses for detaohably receiving extending portionsof said element-.sto form -mcrtise-joints therewith; and frigid peg extending transversely of :the Varindorrniiwgelement receiving. recesses. said/,armdorminlgelebe necessary if the arms 'werenot detachable. ,15"
