BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 1912.
Application filed April 25, 1911. Serial No. 623,144.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnLIKs KAozYNsKI, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Cohoes, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Glosures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a bottle closure, and the objects of my invention are to provide positive and reliable means in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth for retaining a cork or stopper within the neck of a bottle or other receptacle, and to provide a simple and inexpensive closure that can be easily and quickly placed in position upon the neck of a bottle.
Further objects of my invention are to provide a strong and durable closure that is applicable to the necks of bottles of various sizes, and to obviate the necessity of using strings, wires and other devices for retaining a cork in a bottle, jug or other receptacle containing fermentable liquids.
I attain the'above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the closure. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the closure.
A closure in accordance with this invention comprises a band 1 having the ends thereof bent outwardly into parallelism to provide lugs 2 and 3. These lugs are provided with apertures f and 5 and the walls of the aperture 4: are screw threaded to receive a screw 6 having a head 7, said screw extending through the aperture 5, whereby when the screw is rotated the lugs 2 and 3 can be drawn toward one another. The head 7 of the screw is preferably knurled whereby it can be easily rotated. Embracing the band 1 are the looped ends 8 or vertical equally spaced arms 9, said arms having the upper ends thereof formed integral with a disk or cap 10.
The closure in its entirety is preferably made of malleable metal and the cap 10 is adapted to engage the upper end of a cork 11 with the band 1 surrounding the neck 12 of abottle 13, beneath the rim 14s of said bottle. After the band has been tightened upon the neck 12 of the bottle it is impossible for the cork 11 to become accidentally displaced, consequently the closure can be advantageously used in connection with champagne and wine bottles containing fermentable liquids.
The closure can be made of various sizes and the cap 10 used for advertisement puroses.
That I claim is A bottle closure comprising a flat disk constituting a retaining cap for a cork, three equally spaced wide depending arms integral with the perimeter of said disk and each having its lower portion bent upwardly and bent at right angles to engage the inner face of its respective arms to provide a vertically disposed relatively long and wide rectangular loo-p, said loops positioned below the bead of a bottle neck, with the right angular portion of each loop abutting against the lower edge of the bead, a relatively wide flat band extending through said loops, said band being split and having each of its split ends bent outwardly at an angle with respect to said arms, and means for securing the angular ends of said band together whereby the latter is retained upon the neck of a bottle below the bead, thereby maintaining the cap in engagement with the cork.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FELIKS KACZYNSKI.
