Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 18, 1911.
Patented Mar. 26, 1912.
Serial No. 660,996.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK Bnnoxnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shenandoah, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cue-Trimmers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to files and more particularly to a file for dressing the ends of cues, and has for its object to provide a device of this kind which will be suitable for the purpose intended, and which can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost. I Another object of this invention is to arrange the device so that it can be readily placed in any convenient location.
Further objects are to provide means whereby the parts may be readily taken apart for inspection and repair.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example an embodiment of this invention, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view through the device. Fig. 3 is a detail of the file proper used in this device. Fig. 4'. is a view in perspective of a modification of this invention. Fig. 5 is a transverse central sectional view of Fig. i. Fig. 6 is a detail of the file used in the modification.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction shown in the drawings, 1 represents a file that is curved longitudinally, the face 2 of the file being provided with file corrugations 3. A yoke L is secured to the end portion 5 of the holder 6 for the purpose of keeping the latter adjacent to the file, as is clearly shown in the drawings. The holder 6 is cylindrical and extends several inches outwardly from the file so that a cue may be placed therein and be held properly thereby. The member 4 is provided with a back portion 7 that engages with the side and rear portion of the file for the purpose of keeping the holder securely thereon. A set screw 8 provided with a winged head 9 is threaded into the back portion 7 and extends therethrough so as to come into frictional contact with the back portion of the file. The pressure of the set screw against the rear portion of the file controls the frictional resistance to the movement of the holder on the file.
In operation the one is placed within the holder 6 so that its end portion will come in contact with the file, and is then moved longitudinally with respect to the file so as to be trimmed thereby.
In the modification shown in Figs. 4:, 5 and 6, a half round file is used, which is also longitudinally curved as in the case of the first mentioned embodiment. The holder 6 of this case is wider than the file, and its sides 4 extend down the sides of the file, and are joined together by a back piece 7 to form a yoke for the file. A set screw 9 disposed in a hole 8 in the piece 7 is arranged to engage with the file, so that the holder and file may be held rigidly with respect to each other, if desirable. The one may be trimmed or reamed in the manner already described, or simply turned in the holder so that its point will be made suitable for its independent purpose. Parts in the modification similar to those in the construction, already described, have similar reference characters with primes added thereto, in order to facilitate their identification.
Having thus described this invention, what is claimed is A one trimmer comprising in combination a cylindrical holder for cue heads, a longitudinally curved file, a yoke secured to the end of said holder and arranged to embrace said file, and means for fastening the file to said yoke.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK BRECKER.
