Description

G. A. LANIER.
ARTICLE HOLDER.
APPLIOATION IILBD MAY 12, 1011.
Patented Mar. 19, 1912.
pm/644a me o I .To all whom it may concern UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE' GEORGE A. LANIER, OF PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF T0 WILLIAM BRAVERMAN, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
Be it known that'I, GEORGE AI LANIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at V Petersburg, in the countyof Dinwiddie and State 'of Virginia, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Article- Holders; and I do-hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This, invention relates to improvements in article holders and, while it may be used in other relations, it is particularly designed for use as an attachment for typewriters for detachably retaining a rubber eraser and a pencil or similar articles.
For the purpose of disclosure reference is had to the accompanying drawin s illustrating .the invention, in which rawings like characters designate the same parts In the several views and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective View of a typewriter with my attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation, and Fig. 4 is a stamped blank for striking up the article ARTICLE-HOLDER.

downwardly to form a depending arm, whlch enlarged portion is slotted as at 7, provldlng the arms 8' and central tongue 9 which latter is bent inwardly toward the.
extending inwardly as at 11 and bent over upon themselves as at 12 to form upwardly and downwardly disposed pockets 13 and 14, the walls of which are resilient and have restricted openings or neck portions 15 and 16, whereby an eraser or a pencil may be forced within said pockets through the restricted neck openings and retained therein by the resiliency of the walls of said pockets. Having thus described a practical and preferred embodiment of the invention, the 0 particular features of novelty will be pointed out more succinctly in the following claim.
What I claim is An article holder formed from a blank of 5 flat resilient metal comprising a fastening arm having one end turned under and at the other end an enlarged bifurcated extension bent downwardly at a right angle thereto, said extension having an intermediate short tongue bent inward toward the bent end of said horizontal arm, and said bifurcated extension being bent upon itself to form upwardly and downwardly opening resilient pockets, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
