JONAH H. BIGELCW, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent N 101,813, datellApril 12, 1870.
wf- IMPRO'VED STAND FOR TEA. AND COFFEE-POTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making partof the name.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoNAH H. Brennow, of the t, city` and county of W'orcester, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tea and Collee-Pot Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description of the same, reference being had 4tothe accompanying drawings forming a part of this specilication, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved tea and coeepot stand, and 5 Figure 2 represents a central vertical section of the same.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my inyentiou belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
The nature of my invention consists- First, in the combination with a scalloped binding- Vwire of. radial supporting-wires.
Second, in the peculiar construction of the radial wires, whereby they furnish a support for the bottom of the pot, and also legs for supporting the stand.
Third, a tea and coffee-pot stand, the parts of which are constructed and combined together, substantially as hereafter described.
In the drawings- The part marked A is the binding-wire, which forms the outer rim of the stand. y
This wire'A is formed in scallops a., equal in number to the radial wires B and C, which latter Wires are looped around the binding-wire A, between the seal-l lops a, in the manner indicated in the drawings at b.
The ends of the radial wires B and C are secured at thecenter of the stand, around a center ring, D, one part d of said wires extending directly from the binding-wire A to the ring l), in the same horizontal plane therewith, to form a support for the tea or cof? feefpot, andthe other part e of the wire being bent downward to form the legs f, and thence diagonally upward to the ring, as shown in the radials B, or to near the center of the horizontal part d, as shown in the radial C, from which point the two paris of the wire are twisted together, to the ring D.
The diagonal portions e of the radial wires serve as braces to stien the legs j, thereby making a very firm and strong stand.
The scallops a of the binding-wire A are in this instance turned up between the loops l) of the radial' wires, thus forming a guard, which prevents the tea orcoffee-pot from slipping from the stand.
The stands maybe made with all of the radial wires twisted, like those marked C, or with all ofthe radial wires open, like those marked B, or of both combined, as in the present instance. The stands may also be made without the scallops a of the binding-wire being turned up, although I prefer to make them in the man; ner shown in the drawings. I u
The radial wires may be also twisted for a` greater or lesser distance, to suit the taste of the manufacturer.
By the foregoing description it will be seen that my improved tea and coffee-pot stand is light and ornaf mental in construction, while at the same time it is very strong and durable, and requires but little stock inthe manufacture of the same as compared with stands as heretofore constructed.
The binding A, if preferred, may be made of two or more strands twisted together. v f
Having described my improved tea and coffee-pot stand,
What I claim therein as new, and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination in a tea or coepot stand of a scalloped binding-wire, with radial supporting-wires, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination with the scalloped binding-wire Aof the radial supporting-Wires B C, constructed substantially as specified, so as to furnish a support for the bottom ofthe' pot, and also legs for supporting the stand. I
3. A tea and coffee-pot stand, the parts of which are constructed and combined together, substantially in the manner shown and described.
' ONAH H. BIGELOW.
