IMPROVEMENT IN WIRE-BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,943, dated February 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL SHERWOOD, of Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new" and useful Improvements in Wire-Baskets for domestic use, 850., of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My invention relates to baskets for holding fruit, cake, flowers, &c., to be used as articles of table or toilet furniture; and it consists in making baskets of open wound and twisted wire; and it has for its object a new and improved article of manufacture. 4
Description of the Drawing.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cake or fruit basket, which I have chosen to represent my invention. Fig. 2 shows a specimen of wire longitudinally grooved and then twisted.
General Description.

C C is a wound-wire hoop or ring, up to and over which the arms extend and are bent, forming circular festoons on the outside of the hoop; or the ends of the arms may be clinched to the ring. The body is supported and stands on the pedestal or base B, and in the drawing is shown'as connected thereto by the screw-couplin g, the base portion of which screws onto the body. This base is composed of twisted wire, as shown in the drawing; and it consists of radial arms d d, curving downward, and forming circular loops at the bottom. These arms, as those of the body, are cast to the coupling, and radiate from it. The handle or bail C is composed of twisted wire, being stiffer than the wound wire and more suitable to bear strain, and is attached to the rim 0 of the body at either extremity, and may be of any design desired.
For many purposes and articles the bail may be dispensed with.
Claim.
As a new and improved article of manufacture, a basket made of open wound and twisted wire, substantially in the manner described and specified.
