Description

M. E. TUTTLE.
MATGH SAFE. APPLICATIQN FILED JULY 10.1911,
umn E. or BUTTE, MONTANA,-
, ."VMATCH-SAIE To all whom it may comm:
Be it known that I, MARm'EsTU'r'ILL'a citizen of the United States America, re-l siding at Butte,in the county 'of Silverbow 5 and St-ate of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match#v Safes, of which the following is a specification. i This invention-'relates to match safes, the objectof the invention being' to provide an improved device of this character, constructed `in such manner as to maintain .matches in a posit-ion convenient of access, and one that may be readily suspended upon a 'Wall or other support. f l
A further object yof the invention is the provision -of a match safe of the character above described, provided with a burned match receiving compartment and holder which may be readily withdrawn when desired, for the 'purpose of emptying the same without disturbing the usable matches still contained within the match safe.
A further object ofthe'invention'is the provision of a match safe provided with striking .portions upon all ofits surfaces.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will'be set forth in the detailed description which no w follows:
In the accompanying drawin Figure l is a front elevation of a'matc safe conv structed in accordance with 4the invention, Fig. 2 is a Vside elevationthereof, a'nd Fig. 3 is a; vertical section.-
Like numerals desigruite#v corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
.Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5' designates a `wall or other. su port and 6, a nail upon"wl1ich the improved) match' safeis 40 supported. Th'is 'nail passes through fanopening 7 formed in the' upstanding portion 8 of the wall of the casing 9, A vertically slidable door 10 normally closes fanopenin l1 in the rear portion of this `casing and 'provides means for the linsert-ion intothe rear compartment 12 of said match safe', o boxes ofv matches indicated at 13.' The com- ,partment 12 is 1n communication with a for' entengling bottom compartment '14'A wardly which has an inclined bottom 15 and is nor mally closed by a hinged cover 16. This cover is secured to the front wall 17 of the casing 5 by spring hinges 18`, whereby it is normally held in closed posit-ion, The upper face of the cover 16 is covered by as'and paper or other abrasive sheet 19 and the Specification of Letters Patent. Application' mea July 1o, 1911.
lfront, side I and -it' will readily be linde 'Patented Feb. 2o, 1912. 'serial No. 637,820.
top walls of 'the casing 5 (itbeing understood that the casing is of tin or like metal) are stamped out to form raised port-ions 20, which may be, if desired,
of heart shape, and the faces of these raised portlons are sanded or otherwise rendered abrasive vto adapt them for the g'striking of matches thereupon. ff A transverseopening 21 is in communication with a compartment 22 that'is sepa'- rated'from compartments 13 and 14C by walls 23 and 24, and this compartment serves to receive a burned match receptacle 25. gThe receptacle 25 is provided with aknob `or handle 26.
. vThe front wall 17 ofthe "casing is provided with a burned match receivin o ening 27, the metal at t-he inneredge offy w' ich is bent inwardly at 28 to overlie the re ceptacle 25. This `insures that the burned Amatches will fall within said receptacle and that they will not fallfd'own between said receptacle and the front wall, and by lod ing therein, prevent the receptacle 25.
It will be apparent by an' inspection of l Fig. 3, that the slidingdoor 10 projects a suicient distance above the wall 8 to ermit of its being readily gras-pcd when 1t is desired to open said doorand yet the fact that the nail 6 projects through openings formed both in said door and in the wall 8, provides for the ready hanging up ofthe match safe when desired.
It will be apparent from an inspection of 3 that if a box or boxes of matches be placed in position in the compartment 12, with the usual' slidable cover of the box moved to partially uncover the tray of the box, it is apparent that the matches will roll down the inclined bot-tom 15 to a position where they may be' reached 'when the lid 16 slited. t
By providing the\abra'sive sheet v19 and the roughened or abraife raised surfaces 20,
striking surfaces are prhsente'd;
'From the foregoing descriptlonlt will 'be seen thatl simple and eicient mea's are herein provided for accomplishing .the objects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described. are well adapted to serve the'purposes for which they are in` be understobdA that the inventin`1s' not'limited tothe 'precise construction within: its purview ready withdrawal o the tood i that numerous what I port-ion and e forwardly extending portion y at the bottom Vthereof having an open top, a cover hinged to the front Weil of the Ina-in body portion and covering the seid extension, said main body portion being vdivided into two parts, the rearmost of which communicates with the interior of said forwardly extending portion, and n. dra-WerJke reoeptaole slideble through one of the side Walls of said main body portion, there being an opening formed through said front wall and a deflector plate arranged inside seid open ing and overhanging said receptacle. p
2. A match safe comprising a main body portion and a forwardly ext/ending portion at the bottom thereof having an open top,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for `ive: centsaeahLby addressing the Washington, D. C.
normes a cover hinged to the front wall of the main body portion and covering the said eXtension, seid main body portion being divided into two parte, the rearrnost of which cornmunicates with the interior of said for-4 Wardly extending portion, and a. drawerlike receptacle slidable through one of the side walls of said main body portion, the rear of the main body portion being open, a vertically sliding door for closing the rear side of the main body portion and an upward extension upon the main body portion,
there being registering openings forme through the upward extension and the slid ing door as end for the purposes set forth.
' In testimony whereof, I aiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
