Ih'tli'e drawing m5 designatesacasingjdimensioned to receivelthe cigarettes C with their rrilths approximately flush with the top of the receptacle 5. Aisecondereceptacle' 6 is hingedly Vconnected to the receptacle at a and this second Tbtac'l'eis dividerd i'tofl rsh ""IB''/iiiihg Cmpartment 'I and a lighter 'receiving 'compartment 8. The compartment 8 is intended to receive a conventional lighter 'for cigarettes, and it is provided with a lid or'dr 9. This dbb'r "49 lmayibespring actuated toclos'dposition 'irinot, fas i'nafy be'desired. It is hingedl-y coii'ietdto 'fthe casin'gi at I0. This door""@isiprovidt1w-h a fconventional latch I I for holdingit in clsedsi- 'freer wall of the compartment@` acts to thifst the lighter (not shown) out of the compartment 8 far enough for it to be readily grasped Whenever the door 9 is opened.
The upper portion of the casing 6 constitutes, as stated, an ash receiving compartment. A lid I3 is disposed to cover the ash compartment and when the case is closed this lid lies between the ash compartment and the upper end of the cigarettes, A conventional thumb operated latch Il e, when `-folded to los'edposition'it mayea'siiy 3 2| is released. This spring will then tend to hold 5 and 6 close to each other when the structure is open. Also a spring 23 may be employed to throw the easel leg I8 to open position when a restraining latch button 24 is moved out of restraining position with respect to said leg.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within the terms or the spirit of the appended clainis.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a first casing dimensioned to receive cigarettes on end and with their ends substantially flush with the upper end of the casing, a second casing hingedly connected along one side of the rst named casing at the upper edge thereof, a lid covering the second named casing in position to lie between said second named casing and the upper ends of the cigarettes when the two casngs are swung into alignment with each other, means for holding said licl closed with respect to the second casing and a sheet of water absorbent material upon that side of said lid which faces toward said cigarettes when the casings are moved into alignment with each other.
2. A device of the character described comprising a rst casing dimensioned to receive a plu-r rality of cigarettes with their upper ends flush with the upper end of said casing, the upper end of said casing being open, a second casing hingedly connected along its edge to an upper edge of the first named casing, a lid to said second cas- 'i ing having its upper surface covered with absorbent material and having its lower surface of non-absorbent material, said lid being hinged along the line of hinging of the said two casings, one casing being divided into an upper ash receiving compartment and a lower lighter receiving compartment, a spring in the ash receiving compartment tending to lift said lid, said spring being shaped to act as a snubber of cigarettes, means within the second compartment of the second casing adapted to thrust a lighter outwardly from said compartment, a door closing the outer side of the said lighter compartment and adapted to swing downwardly and an easel leg hinged to the second compartment at the lower outer edge of said compartment, the combined length of the two compartments of the second casing and said easel leg being equal to the length of the cigarette receiving compartment.
3. A device of the character described comf -prising a first casing dimensioned to receive a plurality of cigarettes with their upper ends flush with the upper end of said casing, the upper end of said casing .being open, a second casing hing- "edly connected along its edge to an upper edge of the rst named casing, a lid for said second casing, said second casing being divided into an `upper ash receiving compartment and a lower ment of the second casing adapted to thrust a lighter outwardly from said compartment, a door closing the outer side of the said lighter compartment and adaptedto swing downwardly and an easel leg hinged to the second compartment at the lower outer edge of said compartment, the combined length of the two compartments of the second casing and said easel leg being equal to the length of the cigarette receiving compartment.
4. A device of the character described comprising a first casing dimensioned to receive cigarettes on end and with their ends substantially flush with the upper end of the casing, a second casing hingedly connected along one side of the iirst named casing at the upper edge thereof, a lid covering the second named casing in position to lie between said second named casing and the upper ends of the cigarettes when the two casings are swung into alignment with each other, means for holding said lid closed with respect to the second compartment and a sheet of water absorbent material upon that side of said lid which faces toward said cigarettes when the casings are moved into alignment with each other, said second casing being divided into an upper and a, lower compartment, the lower of said compartments having its outwardly facing side provided with a door.
5. A device of the character described comprising a rst casing dimensioned to receive cigarett-es on end and with their ends substantially flush with the upper end of the casing, a second casing hingedly connected along one side of the first named casing at the upper edge thereof, a lid covering the second named casing in position to lie between said second named casing and the upper ends of the cigarettes when the two casings are swung into alignment with each other, means for holding said lid closed with respect to the second compartment and a sheet of water absorbent material upon that side of said lid which faces toward said cigarettes when the casings are moved into alignment with each other, said second casing ybeing divided into an upper and a lower compartment, the lower of said compartments having its outwardly facing side provided with a door, a space within the lower portion of the second casing being shaped to receive a lighter and the rear wall of the lighter receiving space being provided with a spring adapted to thrust a lighter outwardly through said door.
