ASEPTIG CLINICAi-THERMOMETER HOLDER.
Application filed December 23, 1910. Serial No. 598,903.
Be it known that I, WASHINGTON I. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aseptic Clinical-Thermometer Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object sought by me in this invention is to provide an aseptic holder for a thermometer especially adapted to the use of the medical profession and in the use of which the constant danger of a thermometer conveying bacteria from the mouth or throat of one patient to that of another will be absolutely eliminated.
A is an outer case or barrel, its bottom A threaded for the purpose of engagement with a cap B having a projection 6 threaded on its outer end. The upper end of said case or barrel has an inner flange C having an upward projection C of the same thickness as the flange, said projection having a threaded outer surface 0? to engage with the inner threaded portion of an upper cap D. Cap B is adapted to be filled to a line horizontal with the base of projection b with solidified formaldehyde gas E. An inner perforated tubiform barrel F, of copper or other suitable material, is inserted into said outer barrel, its bottom resting solidly on the solidified formaldehyde gas E in cap B- while it is held snugly 'in position by said.
projection b at the bottom and by flange G at its top. The chamber formed by the outside of this inner tubiform barrel, the wall of the outer barrel, projection b and flange C is also filled with the solidified formalde- Specification of Letters Patent.

hyde gas E. The entire body and bottom of said inner barrel is provided with perforations f f. A bifurcated spring metal clasp H is seated rigidly in the top of cap D; it is adapted to receive and clasp the handle M of a clinical thermometer I.
When cap D' is unscrewed to use the thermometer the thermometer may remain seated in its clasp the cap serving as a holder therefor, or it may be withdrawn from its clasp. Then the thermometer is re-inserted in said inner barrel after use in the mouth of a patient any bacteria or germs that may have gathered thereon are speedily annihilated by the formaldehyde gas that escapes from the solidified packing through said perforations f f into the inner barrel chamber in which the thermometer is suspended:
It should be understood that if, in the course of time, said solidified packing becomes somewhat dry it may be readily saturated by filling said inner tubiform barrel with liquid formaldehyde, and that, without altering the scope of my invention, I may substitute packing of cotton, wool, or other suitable material lmpregnated with any germicidal agents.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is, I
The combination with an aseptic clinical thermometer case provided with caps at top and bottom and having an inner flange near its upper end and a metal spring clasp attached within the top cap to receive and support a thermometer of any diameter, of a removable perforated barrel within and spaced from said case and held at the upper end thereof by said flange, the lower end thereof supported by solidified formaldehyde packing in said bottom cap, the space between said barrel and case also constituting a chamber for similar packing.
