To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1', HERMAN N. Roman, a citizen of the United States, residing at ()shkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drinking- Fountains, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in drinking fountains and has for its object to produce a fountain having one or more stationary drinking cups which are self cleansing, sanitary and are attached in a fixed position to a supporting pipe and an emergency cup detachably secured to a plate disposed on the central connection.

Another object is to provide a fountain of this character which can be used in parks, stores, large hotels or other public places where drinking water is not readily accessible.

A further object is of this character which will tages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and op.- eration.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the emergency cup detached; Fig. 4-

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the main supply pipe having a cross or four way connection 2 secured to the top thereof, said cross having a threaded opening 3 on one side thereof adapted to receive the threaded upper end of the main pipe 1.

The cross or four way connection is provided with four openings 3, said openings being provided with the interior threads 4 adapted to engage the threaded ends of the supporting pipes 5. The pipes 5 have elbows 6 threaded onto their outer ends, said elbows having their up-turned ends exteriorly threaded at 7 adapted to engage in the Specification of Letters Patent.

threaded opening 8 in the bottom of the cups 9. The cups 9 are provided with the vertically disposedtubular members 10 centrally arranged in the cups and communieating with the threaded openings 8, said tubular members 10 having a number of passages or openings 11 at the lower ends thereof, opening directly into the cups 9.

One of the supporting pipes 5 is provided with a sleeve 11 between the cross 2 and said pipe and having a threaded opening 12, said opening being made in the pipe near the cross 2, and adapted to receive the lower threaded end of the small pipe 13. A. hori- 1 1 is secured on the pipe 13 near the center by soldering or other means, having the upper end of the pipe eX- tending somewhat above the plate and tapered as indicated at 15. he upper end of the pipe 13 forms a pivot for an emergency cup 16 and also for communication with the interior of the cup through an opening 17 in the bottom of the cup. The cup 16 is provided with a vertically disposed tube 18 adapted to fit over the upper end of the pipe 13 and opening into a tubular member 19 formed integral with the cup and provided with the passages or openings 20 at its lower end which open into the interior of the cup. Thus it will be seen that the cup will contain a continual flow of water and can be removed from the pivot pipe 13 and have the contents of the cup remain therein.

The cup 16 is secured to the plate 1 1- by means of a flange 21 formed on the bottom of the cup and provided with a slot 22 having a reduced portion 23, said slot 22 being adapted to engage over a headed pin 2 1 secured in the plate 1ft. The cup is then turned so that the reduced portion is secured under the head of the pin. A handle 25 is secured to one side of the cup to permit easy handling of the same.

The cup 16 can be easily taken off the plate by releasing the flange 21 from the headed pin 2 1 and lifting the cup up off the pivot pipe 13. It will be seen that the cups 9 can be readily and easily removed by unscrewing them from the elbows 6. The fountain can be used with one or more of the cups 9 by closing up the openings 3 notin use by a threaded plug.

Disposed beneath the fountain is a waste bowl (not shown) adapted to catch all Waste water running from the cups, this water can be used for watering lawns or other suitable purposes.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention I do not want to limit myself to its exact construction but desire to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit of my invention. It will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying the invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.

Having thus described my invention I claim:

1. Ina drinking fountain, the combination of a supply pipe, a four way connection secured thereon, supporting pipes threaded into said connection, said pipes having cups secured on the outer ends thereof, and an emergency cup detachably secured to a plate disposed upon said four way connection.

2. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a supply pipe, a four way connection secured thereon, provided with threaded openings, supporting pipes secured in said openings, elbows threaded on the outer ends of said pipes, cups secured on the upper end of said elbows, said cups having a vertically disposed tubular member centrally arranged therein, communicating with said support-- ing pipes and said tubular members having passages at the bottom thereof opening into the interior of the cups.

3. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a supply pipe, having a four way connection secured thereon, supporting pipes threaded into said connection, cups secured on the outer ends of said supporting pipes, one of said pipes having an upright pipe threaded therein, a plate secured on said upright pipe near the center thereof, and the upper end of said pipe being disposed above said plate and tapered to form a pivot, an emergency cup detachably secured to said plate and mounted on said pivot, and said upright pipe forming a communication with the interior of the cup.

In a drinking fountain, the combination of a supply pipe, having a four way connection secured thereto, supporting pipes threaded into said connection, fountain cups secured upon the outer ends of said pipes, a plate horizontally disposed over said connection having a vertically disposed pipe secured therein, the lower end of said pipe being threaded into one of said supporting pipes, and an emergency cup disposed over one of the ends of the upper end, said cup having a vertically disposed tube adapted to fit over the upper end of said pipe, and opening into a vertically disposed tubular member formed in tegral with the cup, said tubular member being provided with openingscommunicating with the interior of the cup, and means for detachably connecting said cup to said plate.

5. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a supply pipe, having a four way connection secured thereto, means for supporting and connecting fountain cups to said connection, a plate disposed over said connection, a vertically disposed pipe secured to said plate, an emergency cup disposed over said pipe, having a flange formed thereon, said flange being provided with a slot, having a reduced portion, said slot being adapted to engage a headed pin secured to said plate and the reduced portion of said slot being adapted to engage the under side of the head of the pin to hold the cup in place.

6. A fountain cup comprising a cylindrical body having a longitudinally extending tube integrally formed upon the bottom of the cup at one end and closed at its other end, a tube disposed within said tubular extension of the cup and open at both ends,

the inner tube being disposed through the bottom of the cup, the other end thereof terminating adjacent to the closed end of the first named tube, said first named tube having a plurality of openings therein adjacent to its point of con nection to the cup to provide communicating passages between the interior of the cup and the space between said tubes, in combination with a water supply pipe extending into said inner tube, and means for removably mounting the cup upon said pipe.

7. In a drinking fountain, a water supply pipe, a four-way connection arranged upon said pipe, a connecting sleeve threaded into said connection, a distributing pipe connected to said sleeve and extending radially from the supply pipe, and additional radially extending distributing pipes connected to said four-way connection, a cup mounted upon the outer end of each of the distributing pipes, and a central cup removably mounted upon said connecting sleeve.
