BUBBLING FOUNTAIN.

e it known that I, LINDLEY N. BRYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anoka, in the county of Anoka and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bubbling Fountains; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains Ato make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in drinking fountains, commonly known as bubbling fountains, and, to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

The numeral 1 indicates a receptacle having inner and outer walls spaced apart one from the other at their sides and bottom, to afford an air chamber 2. This chamber is closed at its upper end by an inwardly and upwardly extended annular flange 3, rigidly secured by solder, or otherwise, to the upper edges of the side walls of the receptacle 1. The inner edge portion of the fiange 3 extends inward from the receptacle 1 and telescopically receives and detachably holds a water container or pail 4. rlhe sides of the pail 4 are flaring and engage the fiange 3, which supports the same from the inner walls and bottom of the receptacle 1, to afford an air chamber 5. A removable cover 6, having a knob 7, is telescoped onto the receptacle 1. rlhis cover 6 extends considerably above the top of the pail 4 and flange 3, thereby affording an air chamber 8 in the top of the receptacle. When the pail 4 is in position, the flange 3 completely closes both the air chambers 2 and 5.

from within the pail 4 over the upper edge thereof, between the receptacle 1 and fiange of the cover 6, to a point below the bottom of said receptacle. At its outer' end, the tube 9 is bent laterally outward, and its inner end is bent laterally, so as to come just about in the center of the pail and slightly above the bottom thereof. By terminating the receiv ing end of the tube 9 above the bottoni of the pail 4, any sediment which may be lodged in the bototm of the pail will not be drawn into said tube. Where the tube 9 passes between the receptacle 1 and cover 6, the ange of said cover is bulged laterally outward, to aord a passageway 10 for said tube. The frictional engagement between vthe tube 9, cover 6 and receptacle 1 will be suflicient to hold said tube against lateral swinging movement, and the bent intermediate portion of the tube will engage the ange 3, thereby preventing said tube from lslipping down too far.`
lnterpose'd in the delivery end portion of the tube 9 is a valve casing 11, in which is mounted an oscillatory one-wayvalve 12, having a laterallyprojecting hand lever 13. On the delivery end of the tube 9, outward `of the valve 12, is a T-coupling 14. Supported from the lateral extension of the coupling 14 is `a bubbling fountain comprising a vertically extended nipple 15 and a cup 16. The lower end of the nipple 15 is screwed into the coupling 14, and the cup 16 is secured to the upper end thereof. It is important to note that the delivery end of the .nipple 15 extends only slightly above the bottom of the cup 16, so that the same cannot be touched by a persons lips while drinking at the fountain. The open end of the coupling 14 is closed by a'screw plug 17.
A catch basin 18 surroundsthe bubbling fountain, is spaced apart therefrom, and is provided with a depending extension 19 which embraces the coupling 14 and terminates, below said coupling, in a contracted delivery end 20. A pail or other receptacle, not shown, is placed under the catch basin for receiving the waste water. The catch basin extension 19 has its walls formed with diametrically opposite perforations,through which project the delivery endv of the tube 9 and the plug 17. These parts are rigidly secured together by means of solder, or otherwise. A common cover 22, having a knob 23, normally closes the bubbling fountain and catch basin. Rigidly secured to the cover 22 are a pair of laterally spaced depending arms 211, the free ends of which embrace the valve 12 and are rigidly secured to its stem and lever 13. Obviously, the valve 12 acts as a hinge on which the cover 22 turns. The relationof the cover 22 to the valve 12 is such that, when said cover is closed, the valve is likewise closed, thereby cutting off the water supply to the bubbling fountain; and when the cover is opened, the valve is opened. A coil spring 25 is anchored at its 'rends to the cover 22 and catch basin 19, and
yieldingly holds said cover closed, as shown in y1 and 'lhen the cover 22 is opened against the tension of the spring 25, thev valve 12 is automatically opened thereby, thus permitting' the water to flow to the bubbling-fountain. rPhe spring 25 closes the cover 22 when the same is released, and, at y is automatically closed, thereby cutting 0H the water supply to the bubbling fountain.
placing the rims of the bubbling fountain and the catch basin cuite close together and in the same plane, it is impossible for a person to drink at the fountain by placing their lips on said rims, for the reason that they would draw air in between said rims. 1n the bottom of the cup 16 is an opening 26, provided vfor the purpose draining said cup into the catch basin 18.
From the above description, it will be seen that this is an extremely sanitary device, for the reason that a persons lips cannot come in contact with any of the -metal parts thereof, and the cover 22, normally closing the I l device, excludes all dirt and dust.

What I claim is 1. A bubbling fountain comprising a cup, a. water supply conduit terminating in a nipple opening upward through the bottom of said cup, an oscillatory valve in said water conduit, a catch basin surrounding said cup and provided with a discharge pipe, a cover for said cup secured to said valve in such position that it will be closed when said valve is closed, and a spring acting on said cover and valve to normally hold both in closed positions but adapted to yield and permit both to be simultaneously moved into open position.
2. A bubbling fountain comprising a cup, a water supply conduit terminating in a nipple opening upward through the bottom of said cup, an oscillatory valve in said water conduit, a catch basin surrounding said cup and provided with a discharge pipe, a cover common to said cup and basin, sccured to said valve and normally seated on said basin, and a spring normally holding said cover and valve in closed positions but yielding to permit said valve to be opened and said cover to be moved into an open position entirely at one Side of said cup and basin.
3. The combination with a water conduit having a normally closed valve therein, of a bubbling fountain connected to said conduit and comprising a drinking cup and a surrounding catch basin, and a yieldingly closed cover secured to said valve and normally covering and closing both the said cup and basin.
