.Lettcra Patent No. 101,560, dated April 5, i870; antedated March 23, 1870.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, EDMUND Ymsnn, of Newmanstown, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ShaIt-Boxes for Vehicles; and I do hereby declare that the following is full, clear, and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of my shaft-box.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a shaft-box for vehicles, in the manner herein set forth.
In the annexed drawings- A represents the clip,- which is secured to the axletree in the usual way.
The front of the clip A is supplied with the arms b b.
C designates the box, composed of the metal plate d at bottom and adjustable plate 0 at top.
The two plates are bolted together, and plate d firmly bolted to the bottom of shaft E.
The box 0 is embraced by arms b b, and plays vertically on bolt g, which penetrates said box at its center and binds it to arms b.
A small space will be left between plates 0 and d, which is filled with rubber,-so as to admit of 0 being screwed down tightly on bolt g, and thus prevent the rattling usual with other modes of fastening.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of plate d, cap 9, and clip A, each part constructed and operating together in the manner described.
