SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR RAZORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 6, 1911. Serial No. 619,415.
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDDIE P. TRUESDALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Kershaw and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Attachments for Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety attachments for razors, and has for its object to provide an attachment of simple structure which may be applied to razors irrespective of the breadth of their blades, and which when in position upon the razor blade has a set of teeth disposed transversely of the cutting edge of the blade so that the blade may be used with safety.
With the above object in View the'attachment includes two members which slidably engage each other, means being provided upon one of the members for clamping the said members together in an adjusted position. Thus the members may be adjusted to the width of the blade of the razor to which the attachment is applied. A set screw is threaded through the clamping device and is adapted to engage the side of the razor blade and hold the attachment in position upon the said blade.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment applied to a razor; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the parts of the attachment disconnected.
Corresponding and like parts'are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
The attachment consists of members 1 and 2. These members are preferably formed from sheet metal, and the member 1 is provided at its back with a channel 3 which is adapted to receive the back of the razor blade. The member 1 is provided upon its top side with a ledge 4 having at its inner and outer edges upstanding parallel flanges 5. A post 6 is mounted upon the ledge at midway between the flanges 5 and is both externally and internally threaded.
The member 2 is provided at its outer or forward portion with a set of teeth 7 which are adapted to extend transversely across the cutting edge of the razor blade. The said member 2 is also provided with a bracket portion 8 which lies upon the ledge 4- 0f the member 1 and fits snugly between the flanges 5 thereof. The bracket portion 8 is provided with an elongated slot 9 which receives the post 6. The long dimension of the slot 9 is parallel with the flanges 5, so that the members 1 and 2 may be adjusted laterally with relation to each other but are constrained against any independent longitudinal movement with respect to each other. A nut 10 is screw threaded upon the exterior of the post 6 and is adapted to bear against the outer surface of the bracket portion 8, whereby the members 1 and 2 are held in adjusted positions with relation to each other. A set screw 11 engages the interior thread of the slot 9 and at its inner end is adapted to bear against the side of the razor blade, indicated at 12, when the attachment is in position upon the blade.
Therefore it will be seen that the members 1 and 2 may be adjusted to fit over razor blades of different breadth, and when the set screw is forced against the razor blade, the strain upon the attachment will take place at the post 6 and the overlapping portions of the members 1 and 2, so that the said members will not bend or buckle in consequence of such strain.

A safety attachment for razors, comprising members adjustable laterally with relation to each other but constrained against independent longitudinal movement, said members having overlapping parts one of which is provided with a slot, an externally and internally threaded post mounted upon the other overlapping part and passing through said slot, a clamp nut screwed upon the exterior of the post, and a set screw threaded through the interior of the post.
