UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARENCE B. HILL, 0F MANNINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA.
DEVICE FOR PREVENTING MICE ENTERING PIANOS.
Application filed July 17, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE B. HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at h lannington, in the county of Marion and State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Preventing Mice Entering Pianos; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for preventing mice from entering pianos and other objects and consists essentially in the provision of an adjustable attachment to the pedal so arranged as to make it difficult for the mouse to run up pedals to the instrument.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and ar rangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the device to the pedal of a piano. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the device removed, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a band adapted to surround the pedal of a piano and provided with apertures B Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1911.
Serial No. 638,965.
through which a screw or bolt D passes and affording means whereby the device may be clamped securely in place.
E designates a plate which may be of any shape and size and has fastened thereto the angled end of a strip F which has a strap I-I secured at its ends to the face thereof and afiording means whereby the band may pass between said strap and the face of the plate, the latter being held in adjusted position by means of friction.
By the provision of a device of the nature shown, it will be noted that a simple and efficient means is afforded whereby mice may be prevented from entering a piano, thereby avoiding the destruction to property which is a common fault where pianos are not provided with means to protect the same.
hat I claim to be new is A device for preventing mice from ontering pianos, comprising a band for attachment to the pedal of a piano, a plate positioned underneath the pedal having its upper edge conforming to the contour of the under portion of the pedal, the plate adapted to normally close the pedal opening in the foot board of the piano, an angled bar fastened to said plate, a strap fastened to the bar and spaced apart from the latter to provide a passage within which the band is passed and held by frictional contact.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE B. HILL. Witnesses L. N. BEATY, C. L. PRICHARD.
