This invention relates to a case for holding labels or other small articles and particularly contemplates the provision of such a device from which the labels maybe easily and quickly removed and which may be easily filled with the labels.

An important object of th s invention is to provide a label case of simple and compact structure, comprislng a plurality of containers for holding the labels and novel means for securing the containers in thebody portion or casing of said label case,

whereby said containers may be readily moved into and out of said body'portion.

A further object ofthis invention is to provide containers for holding the labels, which are so constructed that the labels may be introduced therein to lie flat and be removed from the container throughthe lower portion thereof.

A further object of this invention is to provide adevice of the above character, which is cheap to manufacture, simple in construction and durable.

CASE FOR HOIZDING LABELS OR'THE LIKE.

In the drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, a

label case is shown, comprising an outer casing formed of spaced vertical walls 8, which are rlgidly mounted upon a base 9. The vertical walls 8 are connected at their rear edges and midway the ends thereof by a -metal strip 10. The outer casing further comprises a lid 11., hinged at its rear edge to the walls 8, as shown at 12. This lid has a metal plate 13 attached to the lower surface thereof at 'its forward edge, which plate is provided at spaced intervals with cut-out portions 14 for forming spaced depending tongues 15. Attached-to the forward edge of the base 9 is a plate or guide. 16, having spaced openings 17 formed thereposed containers for holding labels, are pro-v vided, each of which comprises an upstanding shell 19, which is'preferably rectangular in cross-section. The shell 19 has one side wall thereof provided with an opening 20, the upper end of which is preferably enlarged as shown, and the lower end of which extends downwardly to terminate adjacent the lower end wall 21 of said shell.

The numeral 22 designates a guide, having its ends bent upwardly and attached to the wall 21. The forward upturned end of the guide 22 is cut-away to form spaced openings 23, between which is a reduced st ip 24.

Each of the containers 19, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, has its rear vertical wall bent inwardly near the lower end thereof, to form an inclined strip 25, for forcing the labels 26 outwardly through an opening 27 formed in the forward wall of the shell 19' and near the lower end thereof, as shown. as some of them are being drawn out of the shell through the opening 27 The forward In the use of the label case, the containers A or shells 19, which may be of any suitable myself to the use of my device for holding number, are disposed within the outer casing, and the guide 22 of each shell 19 is disposed for operation within the openings 17. This is accomplished by placing the lower end of the shell 19 in the outer casing and tilting said shell until the forward end of the guide 22 is brought into proper proximity to the guide [16, at which time the guide 22 may be inserted into the opening 17, the strip 24: passing through the opening 18. The shell 19 is then swung to a vertical positionand will occupy a position, as shown in Fig. 2. It is to be understood that the lid 11 has previously occupied its open position and may now be swung downwardly to its closed position, whereby the tonguesl5 will be disposed in engagement with and forwardly of the forward walls of the shells 19, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.

With the different parts of the device assembled as described, the operator may withdraw the labels 26 from the lower ends of the shells 19. When it is desired to refill any of the shells 19, the lid 11 is raised slightly and the selected shell is moved forwardly for a little way and then the lid is allowed to return to its normal position,

The other shells 19 will be held within the outer casing by the tongues 15 but the above referred to selected shell will have the adjacent tongue 15 positioned within the upper open end thereof, whereby this shell may be drawn forwardly to assume the position illustrated in Fig. 5. This movement of the shell is stopped when the tongue 5 engages the rear .wall. of said shell and the rear upstandin end of the guide 22 engages portions 0 the guide 16. Attention is called to the fact that the lid 11 extends forwardly beyond the base 9, whereby when the shell 19 is moved forward to its farthermost position, said shell will occupy a slightly inclined position, as shown in Fig. 5. After the shell has been filled by inserting the labels in the upper end thereof and engaging said, labels through the opening 20 to properly conduct them to the lower end of said shell, it is obvious that the shell may be returned to its normal position within the outer casing. It is obvious also that the shells 19 may be entirely removed from the outer casing, when desired. As clearly shown in Fig. 7, the label 26 is adapted to be attached to a plant or the like, but it is to be understood that I do not at all restrict any particular kind of label nor in fact, to hold labels alone, as the same may be advantageously employed in connection with almost an kind of small articles.

I wish it understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape,

size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without-departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims. l

Having .thus described my invention, I claim y 1. In a device of the character described, an outer casing, a shell disposed therein and adapted tobe moved into and out of the same, co-acting elements connected with the outer casing and the shell to guide the shell in its movement and to limit the shell insuch movement, and a movable lid connected with the outer casing and provided with means to engage and disengage the shell.

2. In a device of the character described,

an outer casing, a shell to have movement into and out of the same, detachable co-acting members connected with the shell and outer casing to guide said shell in its movement andto limit such movement, and a movable plate provided with a tongue adapted to be positioned outwardly of the shell and upon proper movement of said plate and shell to occupy a position within the shell, as and for the purpose specified.

3.- In a device of the character described, an outer casing, a guide plate connected therewith and having openings formed therethrough, a plurality of shells disposed within the outer casing and adapted for holding labels or the like, a plurality of guides attached to the shell and adapted to operate within the openings of said guide plate, a movable lid attached to the outer casing for closing the upper end thereof, and a plate connected with the lid to engage the shells for normally preventing their movement out of the outer casing.

4. In a device of the character described, an outer casing, a guide plate connected therewith and having openings formed therethrough, a plurality of shells disposed within the outer casing and adapted for holding labels or the like, a plurality of guides attached to the lower'ends of said shells and adapted to operate within the openings of said guide plate, and a movable plate provided with a plurality of tongues adapted when disposed in one position to engage the upper ends of said shells to prevent their removal from the outer casing and further adapted for insertion within the upper ends of said shells to permit of said shells being moved out of the outer ,casing and to limit such movement after said shells have moved a certain distance.
