To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I', HERMAN H. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lamp-Shade Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to lamp shade holders, and it has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and readily operable device for firmly holding a lamp shade in position on a lamp socket.

Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of my invention is described.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a lamp provided with my improvement; Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the improved socket, the lamp shade being shown in section; and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the socket in an open position to receive the lamp shade.

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a lamp socket 5 is provided having depending angular fingers 6, around its periphery, the lower portions of the angular fingers 6 being adapted to be disposed beneath the collar 7 on the lamp shade 8.

As best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, a resilient wire tie member 9 is provided and is secured near one of its terminals to a depending member 10, secured to the socket 5. The terminal in close proximity to the de- Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.

pending member 10 has a hook member 11, while the other terminal of the tie member 5! has a set-oft portion 12, with a head 13.

In using the holder the collar 7 on tho lamp shade 8 is pressed inwardly, forcing the angular fingers 6 outwardly, so that they will grip the lamp shade 8 beneath the col lar. This having been done, the tie member 9 is drawn taut by pressing on the oifset por tion 12, which is resilient, and when the ofl'- set portion 12 engages the hook 11, and is moved vertically relatively thereto, it will be found that the tie member is held firmly against the angular fingers 6, beneath the collar 7.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

In a lamp shade holder a socket member having fingers,a tie member secured to the socket member and disposed around the fingers, the tie member having at one end a resilient offset portion disposed radially and longitudinally of the socket, forming a hook, and at the other end a radially disposed 0E- set portion, forming a companion hook which when the tie member is drawn taut is adapted to engage the first-mentioned hook when moved longitudinally of the socket and relatively to the first-mentioned hook.
