To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES L. KUNZ, a citizen of the United States, and residingl at Manitowoc, Manitowoc county, and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display'- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates in general to a display cabinet, adapted to be used for holding packages or boxes containing merchandise, and particularly adapted for holding packages containing vegetable seeds, and in which the packages can be exposed for sale.

The object of the invention is to provide a cabinet having its parts so arranged that the cabinet will occupy a minimum amount of space when in a folded condition and when in an unfolded condition the parts are so arranged relative to each other that the cabinet may be adjusted into various positions, and will present a large surface for display purposes.

To these ends, the cabinet consists of four sections so constructed and arranged that they may be conveniently folded together and opened for the purposes intended.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of my invention, arranged in a portable cabinet. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the cabinet in a partially opened, or eX- panded, condition. Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view in a partially opened condition. Fig. 6 is a similar view showing it in a completely opened condition.

Referring now more particularly to t-he drawings, in the preferred form of construction, the cabinet is composed of four sections, marked respectively A B C and D each section having a longitudinal partition E and transverse partitions F, forming pigeon-holes in the respec` tive sections of the cabinet. The sections A and B are hinged together at one end thereof by means of the hinges The open sides of the sections A and B are inclined; their closed side being straight, while the open sides of the sections C and '-D 'are 'inclined in opposite directions from the inclined surfaces on the sections A and' B so that when said sections are folded together they form a rectangular cabinet with parallel sides and ends; and when said sect-ions are opened, the inclined sides form a comparatively wide base to support the cabinet. The sect-ions C and D are connected to the sections B and A respectively, along the top edges thereof, by means of suitable hinges, H Suitable locks, I, and handles, J may be secured to the case, to form feet for the cabinet when unfolded.

Packages of seed K or other articles may be inserted in the pigeon-holes, or compartments, formed by the partitions. When it is desired to display the goods, the locks I may be freed, whereupon the sections C and D may be moved on their hinges to have their straight rear sides come in contact with each other; or, in other words, in a back to back position as shown in Fig. 2. It will be noticed that when the sections are in this position, the wide sides of the sections A and B rest upon the supporting surface, and form a substantial base. A pin and eye construction L may be employed for holding the respective sections of the cabinet together, when in this position.

The particular manner in which the sections of the cabinet are connected enables the sections to be so arranged that they can be adapted to store conditions, as, for eX- ample, if a corner in a store is to be utilized for displaying goods, such as the corner of a counter, the sections A7 and B may be moved on their hinges so as to bring sections A and C into substantially a right angle position, relative to sections B and D, as shown in Fig. 5. On the other hand, if it is desired that the goods be presented to the view of the purchaser so that all of the goods can be seen at substantially the same time, or, at least from the same point, then the sections are brought into alinement, so that the four faces of the sections in which the goods are displayed, are in substantially the same plane.

In the preferred form of construction, as

herein shown, the sections are adapted to hinges at dilferent points for connecting the l sections, I do not consider such modifications, however, as departing from the spirit of the invention as herein identified, and therefore claim:

1. A combined shipping case and display cabinet composed of two base sections and two top sections, each section having an open front with the side walls thereof tapering from the bottom upwardly and each section having a straight back wall, the two base sections being hinged along the straightedge of adjacent side walls whereby said sections may be swung to carry their backs together or swung to carry the hinged side walls together, one of the top sections being hinged at the lower edge of its open front to t-he upper edge of the open front of one of the base members whereby said top members may be swung into position on top of the base members with their backs against each other or swung downwardly to carry their open fronts against the open fronts of the base members, the open fronts being all exposed when the top members are back to back, and the sections being all closed when the top members are swung downwardly against the base members, and partitions in each section forming pigeon holes for accommodating goods or articles to be displayed.

2. A combined shipping case and display cabinet composed of two base sections and two top sections, each section having an open front with the side walls thereof tapering from the bottom upwardly and each section having a straight back wall, the two base sections being hinged along the straight edge of adjacent side walls whereby said sections may be swung to carry their backs together or swung to carry the hinged side walls together, each of the top sections being hinged at the lower edge of its open front to the upper edge of the open front of one of the base members whereby said top members may be swung into position on top of the base members with their backs against each other or swung downwardly to carry their open fronts against the open fronts of the base members, the open fronts being all exposed when the top members are back to back, and the sections being all closed when the top members are swung downwardly against the base members, partitions in each section forming pigeon holes for accommodating goods or articles to be displayed, locking members on the lower wall of each base member, locking members on the upper wall of each top member forcoperating with the looking members on the base members when said top sections are closed against the base members, and a handle secured to the lower wall of each base member, said locking members and handles forming feet for the display cabinet when in unfolded position.
