IPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
In the accompanying drawings. Figure I is a side elevation partially broken away of a shade holder embodying our invention in one form and applied to a lamp socket: Fig. 2 is an inverted plan of the holder showing the ring in place; and Fig. 3 is a perspective of the clamping rin The particular globesupporting means carried by the holder form no part of our invention and may be of any desired sort.
For convenience of illustration, we have' shown a self centering spring wire 5 supported in the depending peripheral shirt t; of the holder.
To secure the holder to its support. for example to an electric lamp socket. we provide a split clamping ring T. arranged centrally within the holder. ln t'be holder illustrated this ring is formed iinlependently ot the body of the holder and mounted thereon by .means of supporting lugs S, t) and 1t) spaced around the upper edge of the ring, the lug 8 lying substantially opposite the space l etween the free ends of the ring. rivet ll secures the lug S beneath the substantially horizontal upper face of the holder. while the lugs 9 and 10 are tangent'ialtv slotted at 12 and 13 so that they have limited freedom of angular movementwith relation to their supporting rivets LI and l5. l3 reason of this limited freedom of movement the ring 7 may be expanded or contracted by means of the clamping bolt It and may thus be opened and passed over the usual supporting bead 17 ad acenti the lam receivm end ot I the lamp socket to, and then contracted so Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed May 26, 1911.

as to clamp the holder thereon. To permit of access for a screw driver to the clamping bolt. 16, the skirt 6 of the holder'is apertured at 19, opposite the bard end of the bolt. I
Various ways of't'orming the clamping ring and mounting the same on the holder will readily suggest themselves and we do not limit our invention to the particular method illustrated.
e claim as our inventionz-- l. shade holder having a body part carrying globe supporting means in combination with a clamping ring and screw therefor both supported within and normally wholly concealed by said holder.
2. A shade holder having a body part carrying globe supporting means in combination with a clamping ring supported within and normally wholly concealed by said holder. together with a clamping screw concealed within said holder for expandingand contracting said clamping ring. said holder being apcrtured to permit access to said screw.
3. A shade holder having a sul'istantially horizontal body part. with depending periphcral flange. globe supporting means carried by said tlnnge, in combination with a centrally arranged split clamping ring supported adjacently beneath said horizontal body portion and concealed means for expandingandc ntraeting'said ring to grip a support.
-l. shade holder having a' substantially horizontal body part, with depending peripheral llange. globe supporting means carried by said llange, in combination with a centrally arranged split clamping ring supported adjacently beneath said horizontal body portion and a concealed clamping screw for expanding and contracting said ring to grip a supporting bead. said peripheral flange being aperturet l opposite said clamp, ing screw to permit access to the latter.
A shade holder having a peripheral depending flange and globe supporting means carried thereby, in combination with an inupon said holder within said tlange,' the free ends of said ring having tangentially slotted names to this specification in the presence of flanges and. means in connection therewith two subscribing Witnesses.
for supporting said ring with limited free FRANK E. SEELEY. oiom of angular movement upon said holder GEORGE B. THOMAS. to permit of the expansion and contraction Witnesses:
of said ring to grip a supporting bead. A. H. JONES,
In testimony whereof We have signed one H M. WICHERT.
