SHADE-HOLDER FOR INCANDESCENT ELECTRIC LAMPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J uly 18, 1911.
Application filed May 8, 1911. Serial No. 625,799.
T '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BURT, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shade-Holders for Incandescent Electric Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a side view partially in section of a shade holder constructed in accordance with my invention and shown as applied to the lower end of an incandescent lamp socket. Fig. 2 a sectional view showing the clamping band of the socket in its open or extended position. Fig. 3 a sectional view showing the clamping-band contracted.
This invention relates to an improvement in shade holders for incandescent electric lamps, and particularly to shade holders which are of cup-shape or which have a deep skirt so that the shade is supported at some distance below the lower end of the lamp socket, the object of the invention being to provide means for attaching a shade holder of this type to the socket so that the shade will hang concentrically with the light; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a shade-holder comprising a deep shell 2 and a collar 3. In the lower end of the shellshade-holding screws 4: are mounted in the usual way. Inclosed by the upper edge will bear against the surface of the socket 12 above the usual annular rib 13. The outer ends 7 and 8 of the band are perforated to receive an adjusting screw 14 by which the ends of the band are drawn together so as to contract the band within the neck and clamp the same around the socket. By forming the band with the lugs 11 the neck is located concentrically with the end of the socket so that the shade is concentric with the'bulb carried by the socket. The brass ring reinforces the upper end of the shell and forms a support for the upper edge of the band.
I claim A shade holder for incandescent lamps comprising a shell formed at its upper end with a collar having a notch in one side, a band secured to the inner face of said collar at points on opposite sides of the center of the collar opposite said notch, said band having ends projecting outward through said notch, and means for drawing the said ends together, said band formed between its points of attachment with inwardly projecting shoulders.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. BURT. Witnesses:
JOHN S. NEAGLE, JOHN J. DONAHUE.
