Be it known that 1, CHARLES HUBBARD HER- RICK, of Winchester, county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Im- 5 provement in Shade-Holders, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

[ This invention relates to shade-holders for incandescent lamps, and has for its object to improve and simplify the construction of the same. A

My invention in a shade-holder for incandescent lamps consists in the combination, with a shade-holding band split at one or both of its sides, of a neck-holding band consisting of two members, one member being secured to the shade-holding band and the other memher being extended between the split portion of the shade-holding band and secured thereto, substantially as will be described.

Other features of my invention will be pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.

Figure 1 represents in elevation an incandescent lamp provided with a shade-holder embodying my invention, the bulb of the lamp and the shade being indicated by dotted lines; Fig. 2, a top or plan View of the shadeholder shown in Fig. l, and Figs. 3 and Attop or plan views of modified forms of shadeholder.

The incandescent lamp A and the socket or 3 5 neck A may be of any usual or well-known construction, such as now commonly used.

The socket A has secured to it my improved shade holder, preferably made as Shown in Fig. 2, it consisting of a band or ring 0 a, to which the shade a is secured, as by setscrews a and the neck clasp or band encircling the socket A, and consisting of two parts or members b b. In accordance with my invention the shade-holding ring or band a is split or divided, preferably at one side, as-

shown in Fig. 2; but it maybe divided at diametrically-opposite sides, as shown in Fig. 3. One member of the neck clasp or band-as, for instance, the member bis positively secured to the shade-holding band a, preferably by rivets 12 or in any other suitable manner, and the other member I) of the neck-band is independent of the member b, and is Secured, as will be described, So that it may be opened to permit of the insertion of the socket A through the band; but the member I) is secured in place to firmly clasp the shade-holder to the said Socket. The member I) is preferably secured as shown in Fig. 2, it having one end fastened to the member I), as by a screw or rivet b and its other end extended beyond the opposite end of the member b and inserted, as herein shown, between ears b on the shade-holding band a, the said member I) being secured to the shade-holding band preferably by a screw b inserted through the ears b and the member I).

WVhen constructed as shown in Fig. 2, the shade-holder may be removed from the incandescent lamp by unscrewing the screw 6 and removing the member b from between the ears I) on the shade-holding band a. The member I) may be turned upward on the rivet b as on a pivot; or it may be sprung apart to enlarge the opening between the members I) 7 5 b, and thereby permit of the removal of the shade-holder from the lamp.

I prefer the construction shown in Fig. 2, wherein the member I) is secured to the member 19, but I do not desire to limit myself in this respect, as the memberb may be secured to cars at the opposite sides of the shadeholding band a, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, the said band being split on diametrically-opposite sides; or, if desired, the member I) may be 5 pivoted, as at c, to a lug or ear 0 on the shadeholding band a, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.

I claim- 1. In a shade holder for incandescent lamps, the combination, with a shade-holding band 9 a, split at one or both of its sides, of a neckholding band consisting of two members I) b, one member being secured to the shade-holding band and the other member being eX- tended between the splitportion of the shadeholding band and secured thereto, Substan tially as described.

2. In a shade-holder for incandescent lamps, the combination, with a split shade-holding band a, of a neck-holding band consisting of ICO two membersb b, one member being secured name to this specification in the presence of to the other member at one end and having two subscribing witnesses.
