MEAT-BLOCK ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI D. FRAtIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tonkawa, in the county of Kay and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Meat-Block Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clamps for bold ing meat in position upon a block while the meat is being cut or the bone thereof being sawed, and its primary object is to provide y a novel and highly useful device of this char acter which is comparatively simple, durable and cheap to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fullly described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a butchers block having my improved meat clamp attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the lower portion of the supporting member. Fig. 3 is a view of the bearing bracket. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a modified form illustrating another manner of connecting the standard with the bearing bracket. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the sleeve employed in connection with the device illustrated in Fig. 1.
Referring to, the drawings 1 designates a butchers chopping block support upon legs 2, the same being of the usual form and construction.
The numeral 3 designates a bearing bracket which is secured to one side of the block in any desired manner. This bearing bracket 3 is formed with a central opening 4 and a groove 5 which communicates with the said opening.
The numeral 6 designates a standard. This standard is preferably squared in cross section and is also preferably of a hollow construction. The lower extremity of the standard 6 is reduced and provided with an extending portion which is rounded in cross section and which is designated by the numeral 7. The lower extremity of this portion 7 is provided with an offset knob 8. The reduced portion 7 is adapted to snugly engage within the opening 4 of the bearing bracket, its enlarged portion contacting the upper surface thereof and the offset or knob 8 is of a sufficient thickness to freely pass through the groove 5 when it is desired to remove the said standard from the bracket. The numeral 9 designates the clamping device. horizontally arranged arm 10 having teeth 11 and having its inner portion provided with a collar 12, the latter adapted to slide freely upon the standard 6.
The numeral 13 designates the inclined member of the bracket. This member is connected with the forward end of the member 10 and has its upper extremity provided with a collar 14, the latter being also adapt ed to engage upon the standard 6 and to permit of the vertical sliding movement of the clamping device 9 upon the standard.
15 designates a brace rod connecting the members 13 and 10. Pivotally connected with the said brace rod is a gravity pawl 16 and this pawl is adapted to engage any one of a series of frequently arranged teeth 17 prgvided upon the inner face of the standar 6.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the simplicity of the device as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be apparent to those skilled in the art to which such inventions appertain, it being noted that the clamp and standard are both free to swing upon the bearing bracket 3, that the guard 16 will effectively support the bracket in any desired adjusted position when the latter is to engage the meat to be cut and it will be further noted that both the standard and the clamp may be removed from the bracket when the said standard is swung to bring its ofiset 8 into engagement with the groove 5 of the bracket 3. In Figs. 1 and 5 I have illustrated the bearing bracket 3 provided with a sleeve 20, the same having a squared opening 21 which is adapted for the reception of a squared extremity of the standard 6. The sleeve is provided with an opening adapted for the reception of the pin 22 and has its lower end closed and provided with an offset 23 registering with the depression 24 of the bracket.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, is
1. In combination with a butchers block, of a standard projecting above and supported upon the block the said standard having one of its faces formed with teeth, a clamp, said clamp comprising a horizontal arm provided with teeth and an inclined supporting This clamping device comprises a .4
arm, both of said arms having collars where by the bracket is slidably mounted upon the standard, a vertical support for the clamp, and a gravity pawl pivotally connected with the said support and adapted to engage with the teeth of the standard.
2. In combination with a butchers block, of a bearing bracket secured to the block, a removable standard mounted for rotation within the bracket, said standard being of a squared sectional formation and having one of its faces provided with teeth, a clamp, said clamp comprising a horizontal arm having its under face formed with teeth and an inclinedsupporting arm, both of said arms 5 having their free extremities provided with collars having squared openings and adapted to be positioned upon the standard, the members of the clamp being provided with a vertical reinforcing bar and a gravity pawl pivotally connected with the bar and adapted to engage with the teeth of the standard.
