' To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HUGH MA COLM MCCORMICK," a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of 'VVayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Corset, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for abdominal support in combination with a corset, and the object thereof is to provide, first, adequate support for the lower abdomen by means of the abdominal-- portions and with the waistbelt,;-' F ig. 2-
shows the corset provided with said abdominalcompressing and supporting portions and with said waist-belt, on the'figure, the abdominal-compressing and supporting portions'being shownin operation, and the waistbelt unlaced; Fig. 3 shows the corset on the figure, with both said abdominahcompress? ing and supporting portions andthe waistbelt laced, preparatory to closing and fastening the corset thereover.
The abdominal-compressing and supporting portions or members :A obliquely and independentlyoperate directly upon the lower abdomen within a contracting circle (the cor- 40 set),'their function being to provide immovable, intra-pelvic, sub-abdominal support. Theabdominal-compressing and supporting portions are carried, preferably, on the under surface of the corset. The w 'st-belt 15., also. carried preferably on the un er surface of the corset, and formed in two sections, is designed and intended to complement the said abdominal compressing and supporting portions A, by taking care of the pendulous middle and upper abdomen C, overhanging the portions A, compressing or reducing said pendulous middle and upper abdomen C in such manner that the corset proper D" can be closed over both the Waist-belt B and the abdominal-compressing and supporting portions A, upon an already elevated and compressed abdomen. 7 p Y The abdominal-compressing and supporting portions A, as shown in the drawing, depend upon the side and rear of the corset ably attached as shown, at or near the verdominal-compressing and supporting poreyelets for lacing.
In operation',-tl 1e corset put on and hooked at the top by one clasp The abdominal-compressing and supporting por "tions A are then adjusted upon the lower abdomen and laced tosuit the weariys need or convenience. I The waist-belt" (-gyhich-prefnal-compressing and supporting portions'Ai) is next laced until the figure is suitably rethe corset are fastened over both the waistsupporting portions A, and the corset Dis tightened to please the wearer, in the usual way.
Having thus secure by Letters-Patent is: v a ln'combination, a corsetand abdominal compressing and supporting portions disposed obliquely on'the inner surface thereof and supporting the sub-abdomen of the wearer, and a waist-belt formed in two sec,- 'tions overhanging the abdominal-compressing and supporting port-ions, and compressing the middle and upper abdomen of the wearer.
