' L. HAUSER.
GARMENT HANGER.
APPLIGATION FILED SEPT. 2, 1910.

' To all whom it may concern:
STATES PATENT OFFICE. LEOPO LD HAUSER, OF NEW YQBK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 L'EbPOLID HAUSEQ AND: SIMON. WEIL, OF NEW YORK, Y., COMPOSING; THE OF HAlUSEB &: WEE.
smear-nausea.
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD HAUSER, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at No. 168 West One Hundred and Forty-first street, New York city, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Garment-Hanger, of which'the following is a specification, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates particularly to a hanger in which the garment supporting bar has hooks connected thereto in such manner that the hooks can be turned angu larly and folded upon the garment supporting bar in order that the hanger may occupy only asm'all space.
The invention is also directed to certain other structural details of the garment supporting bar.
In the drawing which illustrates a specific embodiment of my invention Figure 1 shows the hanger with the parts in the position which they occupy when the hanger is in use; Fig. 2 shows the device with the parts in the position they ocupy when the hanger is desired to-be packed; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the hanger with the parts in the position they occupy when in-use; Fig;
4 is a view looking at'the hanger from below with one of the end members in extended position and with the other of the end'members in the innermost position or the position which it occupies when the hanger is to be packed; Fig. 5 is an enlargedvertical view showing the-hooks and the manner that they are connected to the bar and to each other; Fig. 6 is a plan view of the plate which is utilized to connect the hook B to the bar; Fig. -7 is a detail plan view of an end of the central member of the garment supporting bar; Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig.
7 Fig. 9 is a plan view of one of the end members; Fig. 10 is a side view of one of the end members; and Fig. 11 is a sectional view taken on line 11-11 of Fig. 9.
' In said drawin A designates the garfiar which. comprises the central housing portion a' and the. end
members b-b slidable therein. The hook designated by B serves as a supporting means for-the bar A. On the underside of the garment supporting bar A is a hook C which serves as a depending supporting- Specification oil letters Patent.

meansfrom which another garment or garment hanger may be su ported. p
The hooks B and C ave hin e connections f and g to the plates 0 an d respectively and these plates are connected to. the garment supporting bar and also to each other in such manner as to -form a swivel connection between the hooks and the garment supporting bar. The plate 0 is shown in plan in Fig. 6 and the plate d is similar in construction to the plate 0.
It will be noted that each is provided with curved slots through which pass rivets e--c which engage and secure.
the plates to the bar and also secure the of the plates plates to. each other. The rivets, however,
are not upset s'ufliciently to cause the plates 0 and d to bind upon the bar and the con- I struction above described thus constitutes the swivel connections between the hooks and the bar. It will be obvious that the hooks can be moved angularly 90 degrees as shown in full and dotted lines in Fig. 5.
The garment supporting bar A comprises a central housing member a formed of sheet metal and the edges of this member are bent inwardly "so as .to serve as guide-ways for the slidable end members b--b. The end members are made by stamping from; a metal plate but it is obvious that they may be formed in other ways.
To prevent the end members from being pulled out of the housing stops it are struck or bent from the body of the metal in the housing and theyform. a simple and efiective means of limiting the outward movement of-the end members. It will be noted that the stops have portions which are adjacent to the inner edges of the slots in the end members so that the stops may serve as supplemental guide members for the slidable end members.
While I have described and shown hooks for supporting the bar and also supporting other things from the bar, still it is obvious that means other than hooks maybe uti 'lized for the same purpose that the hooks are utilized and the claims are to be construed 1. A. garment'hanger havmg a garment supporting bar comprising a sheet I metal I central section, a s'vviveled member having lug carried by the swiveled member, a hook relative to the bar.
at opposite sides thereof slotted portions, a
hinged on said lug, and pins extending between the central section and the swiveled member to hold them together.
2.,A garment hanger having a garment supporting bar, slotted plates on opposite sides of the bar connectedv to-supporting hooks or members and a common means extending through the slots for connecting the plates to the bar so that the 3A garment hanger having a garment supporting bar, slotted plates on opposite sides of the bar having a hinge connection to supporting hooks or members and a common means extending through the slots for connecting the plates to the bar and to each other'in such manner that the plates can turn relative to the bar.
4;. A garment hanger having a garment I supporting bar, a supporting member c0n-' nected to a plate which is located on the top plates can turn side of the bar,"a depending" supporting guides for the slidable member.
'6. In a garment hanger-a slotted slidable end member and a sheet metal housing therefor, said housing having a stop struck from the metal in the housing, Whlch stop has sides adapted to engage the Walls which define the inner edges of the slot and thereby serve as a guide for the slidable member.
This specification signed and witnessed this 29th day of August, A. D. 1910'.
