Be it known that I, LEWIs BARNETT, of Leech-v burg, in the county of Armstrong, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful.

Improvements in Boot-Lasters; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings `and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

'lhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and use of devicesY whereby the uppers of boots or shoes may be drawn tightly around vthe last during the manufacture of boots andshoes,

at R. Midway, or thereabouts, A, ofthe said links A", are hinged thereto, or pivoted thereto in any suitable manner, other-'curved links B, of any suitable material, and having their lower parts serrated, to match or mesh with the serrations of the links A.

To the upper portions of these links B are connected, in any suitablemanner, V rods B', ofrany suitable construct-ion, projecting upward diagonally therefrom, and connected in any suitable manner, C', to

a cross-brace, C, which lies above said curved har A, which hasslots S through which said rods B' pass, said cross-braoe O being provided at` or nearits center with a hole, having female screwhthreads therein, through which passes an ordinary screwed stock, D,

,having a .handle at its upper/part, .and being i'rmly confined, inany suit-able manner, at its lower part, to the said curved v'bar A; the whole being 4so arranged that the leather encircling the last, being placed between the serrated i by the revolution of the screw D, the links Az and close together, holding firmly the leather therein; at

the saine time, and by the same operation, the said links move inwardly,,tightening thereby the leather around the last.
