IMPROVED BOI'A-BEDSTEAD.

The Schedule referred to in those Letters Patent and making part of the earns To all 11:]; cm it may concern I Be it known that I, M: SULzBAcrrER, of the city,

county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Sot'a-Bedstcad; and I do hereby declare the following to be a fill], clear, and exact d eriplion thereof, which will enable those skilled in t e art to make and use the same, reference being bad to. the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawingseat, so that. the sofa may be transferred into a bedstead. By folding up the hinged piece and sliding in the seat, the sofa is restored to its original position and use.

In the drhwing, the letter A designates the frame of my sofa, which is constructedin the usual form.

, In each of the end pieces a of this frame is secured a. metallic lug, b, which catches in a groove, c, in the end piece of a. secondary frame, B, that supports the satO.

. This secondary frame rests on casters, d, andit'cau be readily drawn out to the position shown in figs. 2 and 3, the lugs l) tbrming the guides on which it slides,

and also the stops which prevent said frame being drawn out beyond the desired point.

D is an auxiliary back, which swings on gudgeons, .0, whose bearings are in the end pieces of the main frame, so that it can he turned up to the position shown, in'tig. 1, 0r downto the position shown in figs. 2 and 3."

The front faceot' theback D may'be upholstered or cushioned, or said back they consist of a cushioned frame.

In the bottom part of the main frame A is a. recep tacle, E, for the pillows, bedclothes, 8w.

By these means a sofa is obtained which'can be readily transformed into a bedstead, and which is cheap and simple in its construction, no extra cushion being re-f quired in forming the bedstead. I

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv v The, auxiliary back D, hinged to the end pieces not the open frame A, in combination with the extensionframe B, sliding on lugs b, and disconnected frour-said cud pieces, the parts operating together as and for the purpose described.
