Description

i UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
osWALD KUBITSCHKY, oE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOUNGES.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OswALD KUBITSCIIKY,
' of the city of Chicago, in the coimty of Cook,
and the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lounges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a top view of the lounge folded up', and Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing' the lounge imfolded to forma bed.V Fig. 3 is an end View of the lounge with the seat unfolded to form a bed.
Stmilar lettersv of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
My invention has for its object to provide a more convenient and economical lounge of that class known as bed-loimges 5 7 and to this end it consists in the provision ofmeans for extending the head-rest, as will be hereinafter more fully described. v
'In the accompanying drawing, A is the frame of the lounge, provided with the back B and the head-rest C, and mounted upon legs in the usual manner. D is the seat, hinged to the front edge of the frame in such a manner as to imfold to form the bed, as shown in Fig. 2. E E are spiralor other springs, suspended within the seat by suitable y means, so as to form an elastic surface upon each side of the seat, both of which sides are upholstered or covered by any suitable material. The space within the frameA is also provided with springs and upholstered in the usual manner. l
By this construction one sideA of the seat forms a spring-loimge when it is folded u'pon the frame A, and when ,it is unfolded its opposite side, together with the upholstered frame, forms a spring-bed. By my invention, therefore, one set of springs in the seat is made to perform the office of the two sets commonly employed in lounges of this class.
F F are folding legs upon theouter edge of the seat, to support the latter in ahorizontal position when unfolded to form the bed. G is a supplemental head-rest, adapted for eXtension from the rest C, to form a continuation of the same when the seat is unfolded. Hare parallel bars, hinged at their outer ends to the leg I of the supplemental hcad-rest, and passing through the leg J of the rest C.
Whenthe supplemental head-rest is folded up it bears upon the main head-rest, as shown in Fig 1, with its leg supported upon a block, K, affixed to the bottom of the main leg J. When, however, it is extended the leg I rests upon the iioor, while the inner end of said rest clears the main leg J and drops down upon the parallel bars. To permit this operation the bars arehinged, as previously described. By this arrangement a continuous head-rest is formed for the bed, having an unbroken surface.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is lz The supplemental head-rest Gr, provided with the hinged parallel bars H and leg I, all constructed and arranged as described, for the purpose specified.
2. The sliding supplemental head-rest G, in combination with the head-rest C, the frame A, and folding seat D, as herein described, for the purpose speciiied.
. OSWALD KUBITSGHKY.
