TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, PIERRE J. HARDY, of-the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and pplied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Folding Chair arid Lounge combined; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of said chair in position for use as such, and
Figure 2 is asection of the same in an unfolded position for use as a lounge.
Similar marks of reference denote the same parts.
My said invention consists in a folding chair in which the seat is turned over toward the front, the arms forming the supports for the same. The back is inclined, and the cushion of said back doubles over to form a pillow for said lounge. By this construction the covering of the chair itself is protected, the some being turned over when the chair is unfolded to form a lounge, thus preventing wear on said covering. In the drawinga a are the legs; I), the seat-frame; d, the upper frame of the scat hinged at e to the frame 6; fare the arms at the sides of the seat forming supports when the frame d is turned over; 9 is the hack hinged at h to the frame 6, so that it may stand up and be connected to the armsf by any suitable hook or latch to form the chair, as seen in fig. 1, or turned down, as seen in fig. 2, to form the lounge, the parts being supported by the ends of the hack coming in contact with ofisets in the frame b, (see fig. 2.) The lower part of the padding of the back is made double, as seen at It, so that it can be turned up and over the upper portion of the padding to form the pillow of the lounge when unfolded, as in fig. 2. The surface for the lounge portion is to be padded in any desired manner or covered with suitable material, and straps may be used to hold the portion is of the back padding in either position. i I
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A folding chair, in which the back can be turned down, in combination with a double-seat frame, hinged at the front, and supported by the armswh'en turned over to form a lounge, as setforth.
I also claim the padding of the'ha-ck, formed double at k, so as to be turned over for the pillow, in comhination with the folding chair back and double seat hinged and fitted asset forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 23d day of March, A D. 1867.
PIERRE J. HARDY.
