POWDER-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 7, 1911.
Patented Sept. 19, 1911.
Serial No. 612,932.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIS PIKE` a citizen of the United States, residing at Fresno, in the county of, Fresno and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Powder-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a. powder box which will contain means for conveniently distributing powder over a foot of the user.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the box open, the cover being broken away; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
Referring to the drawing, l indicates a box which may be formed of any suitable material, as card-board, papier-mch or metal. It is provided with a tightly fitting cover 2f prevent-ing the powder escaping therefrom. Upon the bottom of the box is a yoke-shaped frame 3 of spring wire, the sides 4 of which are bent upward and backward at an acute angle, and the ends of which upwardly bent portions 5 are bent toward each other and form the axle for a roller 6, covered with down 7, or similar material, adapted to receive the powder on its surface and to transmit it to the feet of the user. The sides 4 of said yoke-shaped portion of the spring wire are retained in place upon the bottom by means of a rectangular wall 8, the side portions of which wall rest upon the sides 4 of the frame, said wall fitting snugly within the walls of the box. The yoke portion of said frame is covered with a strip 9 of canvas or the like material cemented to the bottom of the box. At the end of the box remote from the roller is provided a sloping rest 10 for the heel,
, which rest slopes from the level of the top of the box at its rear end down to the level of the bottom at its front end.
In use a suflicient quantity of suitable powder being placed in the box, the user places his foot upon the top of the roller, and depresses said rollerto cause the under side portion thereof to become covered with the powder in the bottom of the box. He then removes his foot from the roller which thereupon rises under the action of the spring sides, and he then inserts his foot between said roller and the bottom of the box, and, if necessary, presses upwardly against said roller so that the powder is transferred from the roller to the top of his foot.
I claim 1. A powder box, having an opening at the top sufficiently large for the insertion of the foot of the user, and a closure for said opening, and a. device for distributing powder secured within said boX independently of said closure, said device being arranged to permit the foot to pass thereunder, substantially as described.
2. A powderbox having an opening for the passage thereintobf the foot of the user, and means for closing said opening, and means for distributing powder secured in said box independently of said closing means and arranged to permit said foot to pass thereunder, substantially as described.
3. A horizontally elongated powder box having an opening for a passage thereinto of the foot of the user, and means for c'losing said opening, and powderdistributing means adjacent to one end of said box and arranged to permit the passage thereunder of said foot, the other end of the box being formed to provide a heel rest, substantially as described.
4. In combination with a powder box, a device for distributing powder having a yielding surface and springs movably securing said device within said box, said box having a heel rest sloping upwardly toward the end remote from the device, substantially as described.
5. In combination with a powder box adapted to receive a. foot, spring arms secured to said box, and a roller carried by said arms and having a surface adapted to receive and distribute powder on a foot so received, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIS PIKE. Witnesses:
