WILLIS PIKE, OF FRESNO, CALIFORNIA.
POWDER-RECEPTACLE.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 22, 1911.
Serial No. 634,801.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, W'ILLIs PIKE, a oitizen of the United States, and resident of Fresno, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder-Receptacles, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
My invention relates particularly to a receptacle for containing powder and facilitating treatment of the feet therewith.
The main object is to provide a simple and convenient means for containing a suitable powder and enabling a person to apply the powder readily to the feet, uniformly and conveniently and yet without wasting the powder.
The invention as illustrated inthe accompanying single sheet of drawings in its preferred form consists of an elongated boX having an opening at one end with a folding closure therefor. A suitable soft powder distributing material such as lambswool is arranged around the mouth of the box and on the closure so as to distribute the powder as the foot is withdrawn and remove any excess. A movable distributer is also provided, located inside of the box so as to facilitate the application and distribution of the powder on the top of the foot.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of the receptacle embodying the improvements of my invention, the boX being open ready for the insertion of the foot. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3, is a side view showing the boX closed.
The receptacle is preferably of the shape resembling a shoe or slipper as that conforms generally to the shape of the foot. It may be made of any suitable material and provided with a bottom 1 and upper portion 2 having an opening or mouth 3 at the large end. The flap or closure 4 is hinged to the bottom along the edge of the mouth 3 and is preferably provided with suitable fastening means such as a fastener 5 adapted to engage the button 6. An o-rnamental bow such as 7 may be employed to partially conceal the fastening device and add to the ornamentalv appearance of the receptacle. The powder distributing material such as lambs-wool is provided around the edge of the opening 8 as at the top 8, sides 9 and 10 and the bottom 11. A similar substance12 is preferably also provided over the surface of the closure 4. An additional distributing means 14 of suitable character for instance, lambs-wool is mounted on a roller 15 which is pivotally carried by a spring fra-me 16 whose lower end is secured between the bottom l and the in-sole Patented May '7, 1912.
17. The powder 18 of suitable composition is contained within the receptacle. When the foot is inserted into the opening 3 beneath the distributer 14 it is coated with the powder and when the foot is withdrawn, the powder is distributed more uniformly over the foot. The excess of the powder is wiped olf by the material as at 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. If suiicient powder is not thus distributed on the top of the foot the dist-ributer 14 may be depressed so as to pick up enough powder to coat the foot when inserted and withdrawn.
The distributing material around the mouth of the opening 3 serves to prevent the powder from accidentally sifting out of the box and when the cover or closure 4 is shutas shown in Fig. 8, the distributing material 12 presses againstthe material at v8, 9, 10, and 11 and eectually closes the mouth of the receptacle. Vhile the construction is shown as simple it is equally simple to operate and has been found to greatly facilitate the treatment of the feet. On account of the shape of the receptacle and the arrangement of the wool or other similar material at the mouth there is no possibility of the powder being spread around outside of the receptacle and the invention assures a comfortable and -convenient application.
What I claim is 1. A powder receptacle having an opening for the foot at one end, powder distributing material arranged around the mouth of said opening and a closure for said opening having a powder distributing material thereon.
2. A powder receptacle comprising an elongated body having an opening at one end, a closure therefor hinged along the lower edge of said opening and having powder distributing material thereon and powder distributing material arranged inside of said receptacle adjacent the mouth and spaced above the bottom sufficiently for the admission of the foot.
3. In a powder receptacle, an elongated body having an opening at one end, a downwardly movable powder distributing member inside said receptacle adjacent said opening and spaced apart from the bottom of the receptacle to admit the foot between said downwardly movable powder distributing member and the bottom of the receptacle, and a closure for said opening.
t. A powder receptacle comprising an elongated body having an opening at one end, a closure therefor hinged along the lower edge of said opening and powder distributing material secured around the edges of said opening.
5. A powder receptacle comprising an elongated body having an opening at one end, a closure therefor hinged along the lower edge of said opening, powder distributing material secured around the edges of said opening and a vertically movable powder distributing member adjacent said opening.
6. A powder receptacle comprising an elongated body having an opening at one end, a closure therefor hinged along the lower edge of said opening, powder distributing material secured around the edges of said opening, a vertically movable powder distributing member adjacent said opening and powder distributing material arranged on the inner face of said closure.
7. A powder receptacle comprising a box having an opening at one end and a row of powder distributing material along the top, bottom and sides of said opening with a passage between for the foot.
8. A powder receptacle comprising a box approximately foot-shaped and having an opening at one end and a closure therefor and powder distributing material arranged within the box and adjacent the opening.
9. A powder receptacle comprising a box approximately foot-shaped and having an opening for the foot at one end and a closure therefor and powder distributing material on theelosure.
