Description
W. KROHN.
Patente Aug 1, 1922,
LQQQLGQQ l/VVE/VTOR WILLIAM K'eoHN WITNESSES A TTOR/VEVS oarrae stares FATENT @FFEQE.
WILLIAM KROHN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
POWDER PUFF.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1. WILLIAM KRoHN, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Buffalo, county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Powder Pufi', of Which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in powder puffs, an object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will function both as a powder puff and as a powder dispensing receptacle.
A further object is to provide a powder puff which will be neat and attractive in appearance. simple and practical in construction, efficient in use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved powder for clearness.
Figure 2 is a view in section therethrough. Figure 3 is an edge view thereof showing the details of the fastening mechanism.
Referring in detail to the drawings. 1, 1
pufi' with parts broken away represent two pieces of loosely fabricated material such as wool, or any other material which will present a soft exterior, and which will permit the shifting of powder therethrough.
The edges of the pieces 1, 1 are sewed together throughout the greater portion of their length as indicated at 2, a small opening 3 being left for the introduction of powder into the container thus formed.
A flexible handle member 4, preferably comprising a short length of ribbon, has its ends secured to the members 1 at the opening 3, and coacting flexible securing devices such as the snap fastener member 5 are carried by the ends of the ribbon and may be used to close the openings above referred to. A lining 6 of some loosely Woven material such'as cheese cloth is sewed to the inner faces of the members 1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 28, 1520. Serial No. 433,701.
In use the powder 7 is introduced into the receptacle through theopening 3, and the opening is then closed by the securing devices a. lightly against the surface to be powdered, causing the shifting of powder therethrough on to said surface, and the particular character of the material used in the construction of the powder puff is peculiarly adapted for effectively spreading the powder over the surface after it has'been applied therethrough.
The handle member -l serves the double purpose of a handle with which to hold the puff during the powdering operation and as a means for holding the mouth of the bag or receptacle open while filling. To fill the bag, the user inserts her thumb and index finger under the handle 4 and spreads them. The readily separable fastener elements 5 will be thus separated and the mouth of the bag opened and held in. open position for filling.
Although I have shown the members 1 as circular in shape, it will be apparent that their form may be varied to suit the trade and that various other slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention. and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
WILLIAM KROHN.
