Description

April 21, 1931. s. BlONDl TOILET ARTICLE Filed May 25. 1929 INYENTOR Ja /e270 flml ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 21, 1931 sAvERIo IBIONDI, or LOS ANGELES, camroaivm,,assrenori TO-WILLIAM L. time,

TOILET ARTICLE Application filed May 25,
My invention relates to toilet articles, and more particularly to powder receptacles of the type commonly called powder puffs, and it has for an object the provision of an article of this character which is simple and inexpensive in manufacture, positive in action, and which embodies in its construction means to permit of the satisfactory discharge of powder therefrom in quantities to meet the requirements of the user. 7
A further object of the invention is to provide an article of this character embodying means to simplify the work of refilling 'the receptacle with powder and for sealing the receptacle after it is supplied with a quantity of powder and in a manner that will prevent escape of the powder from the receptacle when the latter is carried in the handbag or purse or on the person of the user.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a view in rear elevation of the receptacle;
Figure 2 is a view in receptacle;
Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a sectional perspective view of the receptacle.
In carrying the invention into practice, I employ mating strips or sections 1 and 2, which are joined together. at their marg nal edges by stitching 3, except that the stitching is not carried entirely around the marginal edges. In other words, the two sections 1 and 2 are secured together in a manner that will render the sections relatively separable so as to produce a filling openinga; at one point in the edge of the receptacle. The sections 1 and 2 may be circular, square, or any other approved shape, and they may be constructed of pile material, such as velour, or I may employ chamois or any like equivalent of suitable porosity that will perm t powder to be discharged to the exterior of the receptacle when the latter is lightly patted against the flesh of the user.
The section 2 is provided preferably at a point near its center with perforations 5. These perforations extend entirely through the material of which the section is formed front elevation of the 1929. Serial No. 865,981.
usual manner when applying the powder to 1 he person of the user.
At the mouth or opening 4 of the recep-p tacle is secured a flexible closure 7 the free edge 8 of which is stitched at 9 to the section 2. This closure is adapted to be folded over,
upon a portion of the section 1 as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3, and in order that it may be held in this position I provide it with a re silient fastening element 10 adapted for detachable connection with a mating resilient element 11 on the said section 1. The free outer edge of the closure is provided with an ornamental looped ribbon 12 which may be grasped between the fingers of the hand of the user when it is desired to separate the resilient element 10 from .its co-actingelement 11. This closure 7 is formed with an integral auxiliary closure tab 13 which is adapted to be folded upon itself in substan-' tially V-form, in order that its respective folds 14 and 15 may extend against the inner faces of the sections 1 and 2 ata point immediately below the mouth or opening 4. This tab functions as a supplemental sealing means to prevent passage of the powder from the receptacle by way of said opening 4. The auxiliary tab of the closure 7 may be treated to the action of asize solution, in order to give it slight stiffness that will permit it to occupy substantially the position illustrated in Figure 3 when'the mouth or opening 4; is closed.
I claim as my invention:
A powder puff comprising a double-walled receptacle of puff material, the respective walls being secured together at their marginal edges and respectively formed to provide an intervening filling mouth, a closure mem ber attached at one end to one wall at a point within the mouth and having a plurality of spaced apart folds located within the said mouth and co-acting to span the latter when closed so as to preclude the escape of powder lfi (Ill
through the mouth, and an exteriorly located closure member having one end secured to one side of the mouth and adapted to be folded over the open end of the mouth and to be detachably secured to one wall of the receptacle exteriorly thereof, said last named closure serving wh n folded over the mo th as aforementioned to draw the walls of the mouth toward each other and to move the same into sealed engagement with the respective folds of the first said closuremembe'r. SAVERIO BIONDI.
