To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLrH C. Rnoxnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakville, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Razors; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to an improvement in safety razors, and is an improvement on the razor shown and described in United States Patent No. 989,176 granted April 11, 1911, the object being to provide simple means for firmly holding the blade under uniform tension and permitting the same to be removed without the use of screws or other fastening devices difficult of operation; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a head or yoke 2 struck up from sheet metal and adapted to be secured to the upper end of a handle 3 by a screw 4:. The ends of the head are turned up forming ears 5 which are provided with perforations 6 and with inwardly turned fingers 7. Secured to the yoke and preferably by the screw 1, is a flat spring 8 the ends of which extend beneath the fingers 7. Pivoted to the ears 5 by trunnions 9 which extend through the perforations 6 is a comb or guard 10 having the usual teeth 11. In opposite sides of the guard are notches 12 toclear the fingers 7, and at the upper edge the guard is formed with outwardly projecting nibs 13 and on opposite sides near its lower end with shoulders 16. This guard rests upon the spring which tends to lift it away from the head.
The blade 14 has a clip 15 applied to its upper edge which forms a thickened edge op-- posite the cutting edge. To insert the blade the guard is pressed downward against the spring 8 so as to give clearance beneath the fingers 7 for the passage of the blade 14 which is crowded down until the clip 15 passes the nibs 13. The guard if then released, will be crowded up against the blade by the spring and the blade thereby rigidly held in place as the corners of the blade are held by the shoulders 16 formed on opposite sides of the guard. To release the blade a slight downward pressure is exerted on the guard which relieves the friction between the fingers and the blade, allowing the blade to be readily withdrawn.
It will be seen that the blade is firmly secured and held in place without the aid of screws and is readily inserted and removed and the blade held under uniform tension.
I claim 1. A safety razor comprising a yoke formed with upwardly turned ears and inwardly extending fingers, a spring secured to said head and extending beneath said fingers, a guard pivotally connected with said ears and formed on opposite sides with notches to clear said fingers, and a blade adapted to pass between said fingers and the 11 per face of the guard.
2. X safety razor comprising a yoke formed with upwardly turned ears and inwardly extending fingers, a spring secured to said head and extending beneath said fingcrs, a guard pivotally connected with said ears and formed on opposite sides with notches to clear said fingers and at its upper edge with nibs, and near its lower edge with shoulders, and a blade adapted to be entered between the fingers and the upper face of the guard in which position it is held between said nibs and shoulders by the spring.
