G. HICKMAN. SAFETY RAZOR. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 9. 1910.

9' GEORGE HICKMAN, F LIZTON, INDIANA.
SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of ietters Patent.
Patented May ,2, 1911.
Application filed June 9, 1910. Serial No. 565,926.
and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety razors, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a. safety razor, the guard fingers of which are provided with intermediate spaces which will prevent the clogging of the razor with lather and beard.
In safety razors of the ordinary construction the razor becomes clogged with lather and beard owing to the form of the guard fingers and the manner of securing the blade to the guard. 7
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a safety razor in which the shaving operation may be carried on without clogging the space between the guard finger and the blade.
Another object of my invention is to provide a safety razor of simple construction having a handle secured at one side thereof to permit a more easy action of the razor and to also provide means whereby the razor blade may reach all parts of the face.
These'mnd other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is an end elevation of a safety razor made in accordance with my inven tion. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4; looking in the direction indicated by the arrows. Fig. 4 is a section on the line -4.4 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the blade detached from the holder. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of the holding plate for the blade.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the ard plate of the razor which is preferaffly formed of sheet metal and provided with guard fingers at opposite sides thereof, said guard fingers being formed by outwardly extending curved por tions 2 and the upwardly curved guard members 3 having downwardly bent terminal ends 4 which serve as guards and guides for the razor as it passes over the'face. The ends 5 of the guard plate 1 are bent at right angles to the plane of the plate 1 and preferably curved on their upper edges to (1011-: form to the shape of the holding plate and to prevent turning or shifting of said plate. The double edged blade 6 is provided with a central aperture 7 and is placed between the guard plate 1 and the transversely curved holding plate 8, said holding plate having a threaded socket 9 in the plane undersurface thereof. The guard plate 1 is provided with a central aperture and a binding screw 10 extends through the guard'plate, through the aperture 7 in the blade, and engages a-screw threaded socket 9 in the holding plate 8, thus the holding plate upon its upper surface is curved and smooth having no objectionable projections to interfere with the operation of the razor. The handle 11 is preferably polygonal in form to prevent turning in the hand, said handle being secured preferably at one end of the guard plate so as to leave the razor in great part.- free from obstructions that wouldainterfere with the shaving operation. The double edged blade 6 is provided with rounded corners to prevent accidental cutting of the face and owing to the disposition of the handle the razor can be used the same as any ordinary razor giving the barber stroke instead of the ordinary hoe stroke or scraping action.
From the-foregoing it will be obvious that a safety raz'or made in accordance with my invention is simple in construction, will not clog up by lather and beard during the shaving operation, is smooth and free from obstruotions upon the curved side adapted to come in contact with the face and that the handle is of a form which will prevent the turning of the razor in the hand of the user.
Having thus fully described theinvention what is claimed as new is:
The herein described safety razor comprising a guard plate having downwardly and outwardly curved fingers upon opposite sides thereof. said fingers being spaced apart and curved downwardly at their outer ends to prevent clogging of the razor with lather, said guard plate having angularly bent ends, a holding plate having a plain un broken curved outer surface, a double razor blade having rounded corners, said razor blade terminating at its edges adjacent to the upwardly curved portions of the guard fingers, a binding screw extending centrally through the guard plate and blade and into a socket in the holding plate, and a handle secured to the underside of the plate at one end thereof, said handle projecting parallel to the blade, and said handle being of polygonal form in cross section.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
