SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 7, 1909.y
Application led January 19, 1909. Serial No. 473,077, v
To'aZZ whom it may concern:`
Be it known that I, JOSEPH MOLKENTHIN, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, inthe county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new andv useful 'Improvements in Safety- Razors; and I do hereby'declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it. appertains to niakeand use thesame.
My invention relates to new anduseful improvements in safety Vrazors and more particularly to that class employing a twoedged blade and my object is to provide a suitable frame for supporting the blade.
A further object Iis to provide means for removablyysecuring the blade on the frame anda 'further object is to so construct the parts of the device that the blade may be quickly introduced or removed from the frame. Y
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Inthe accompanying drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is aperspectivc View of my improved razor ready for use.' Fig. 2 is atop plan view thereof showing'the latch for holding the blade on the frame in its open position. Fig. 3 is al transverse sectional view as seen on line 3 3, Fig. 1, and, Fig. 4 is a sectional view as seen on line 1-44, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in which similar referencenumerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates a handlefwhich may be constructed. in the usual or" any preferred manner and is preferably circular in cross section,
` =said handle having secured ,to one of its ends the frame 2, the longitudinal edges of which frame are Slightly curved and provided with a plurality of fingers 3. The recesses between the lingers 3 are of such depth that'when the blade 4 is placed in position on the outer face of the frame, the cutting edges 5 thereof will extend over the recesses and engage the beard protruding therethrough. .l
Extending from theface of the frame 2 and adjacent each end thereof, are studs 6, which lstuds are adapted to enter notches 7 in the ends of the blade, thereby holding said blade against lateral movement while the blade is held against casual removal )from the frame by means of a latch 9.
One end of the latch 9 is hingedly secured to Ione end of the frame 2, while the opposite end of the latch is provided with a lip 10, which lip extends over and engages the opposite end of the -frame and holds the latch in its closed position. A
` The studs 6 are of sutiicient length to eX'- tend beyond the blade 4 and eliterv openings ll inthe latch, in which manner the latch is efectively held against twisting movement land to cause the latch to exert pressure at the proper point upon the blade 4, v
said latch is preferably constructed concave, whereby sprinfr action will be given the latch and the longitudinal edges of the latch caused to bind on the blade 4 adjacent its cutting edges.
A further object 1n formmg the latch 9 1n the manner shown, 1s to enable the user to readily bring .the cutting edges :of the blade can be very cheaply constructed and at the same time rendered vvery strong and durable and it will likewise be seen that the blades may be readily changed when desired.
I claim: v
A razor of the character described comprising a holder, a handle'therefor, a blade and a latch pivoted at one end to an end of said holder, said holder having upstanding studs near each end, said `blade having notches in its ends adapted to receive said studs and said latch havin apertures near its ends for the reception o? said studs, said latch bein pivotally connected at one end to an endo said holder, the opposite end of said latch being curved downwardly andterminatingin a loop engaging the opposed ledge or end of said holder for the retention 2 I Qsgs'n of` said latch in eifective position upon said naine to this speeieation in the presence of studs and said blade, said holder and said two subscribing witnesses.A
' latch being rounded upon their upper sur# 4 faces, the lateral or longitudinal edges of JQSEP H MOLKENTHINJR 5 said holder being curved inwardly and doWn- Witnesses:
Wardly beyond said blade and said latch. NICKLAUS EWERLNG,
In testimony whereof I have signed my JOHN LIKEWISE.
