Description

G. H. KNIGHT.
DOOR HANGER. APPLICATION FILED nmze, 1910.
Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
GEORGE H. KNIGHT, OF ST. JOHNSBURY, VERMONT.
DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 29, 1910.
Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
Serial No. 558,519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. KNIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Johnsbury, in the county of Caledonia, State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in door hangers, the object being to provide a simple, strong, durable and anti-friction device for the purpose.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described and referred to in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention,Figure 1 is a front view of the door hanger, part being broken away; Fig. 2 is an edge view, partly in section; Fig. 3 is a front view of the stationary bracket supporting the track on which the hanger moves; and Fig. 4 is an edge View of the same.
In these drawings, or, represents the hanger having a central opening in which is a ball 12 secured by ball retainers d, fastened by rivets g, or otherwise, to both sides of the hanger. This hanger is formed with a raceway in which are located balls or rollers 0, upon which the central ball b runs. This hanger a is adapted to be fastened to the door through its lower and oflset portion by means of bolts passing through openings a into the door.
The supporting bracket h is provided with openings 71, through which bolts are adapted to be passed into the framework of the building. It has an open ing it through which the upper part of the hanger passes as the door is being operated, and has seats its to which the track bars 2', 2', upon which the ball 6 runs, are secured.
Each hanger a has also a stud c passing through it, upon which are arranged friction rollers f, f, placed under the track bars 6, to prevent the door being raised from the track bars.
The operation is substantially as follows: The hanger with the door attached to it, passing between the track bars 71, z, is supported on the large ball I) rolling on said track bars, the weight of the door and hangers being transferred to the large ball 6 through the small rollers or balls a rolling in the race a in the central opening of the hanger.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A door hanger comprising a bracket, a track supported thereby, a hanger having a central opening, a ball therein for engaging the track and supporting the hanger, a raceway located in said hanger and in a plane passing centrally through said ball, rollers in said race-way engaging said ball, and retainers for holding said ball in said hanger in engagement with said rollers.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE H. KNIGHT.
Witnesses:
