Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1911.
Application filed August 2, 1910. Serial No. 575,200.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALGERNON B. Oorrm, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Apache, in the county of Caddo and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and Improved Pencil-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a simple, economical and efficient form of spring holder for pencils, fountain pens and articles of similar character; and to provide a holder light in construction and adapted for easy attachment to the clothing of the user.
One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; and Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
The holder is formed from a single piece of spring wire which is bent to form primarilya square frame portion havinga straight rack bar 9 forming the bottom of the said frame and from which perpendicular side extensions 10, 10 are formed. The wire, after forming the extensions 10, 10, is bent outward to extend forward of the said frame and toward the median line thereof to produce adjacent loops 8, 8 wherein may be inserted a pencil or similar article. By reason of this construction the bar 9 and extensions 10, 10 form the base on which the wire constituting the loops 8, 8 expands. In the contracted position of the loops 8, 8, the pen A or other article is forced against the rack bar 9 below the said loop and the straight bar sections 13 and 17, form in conjunction with the loop 14-, the pin 15 and the loop 16, a safety pin construction for supporting the pencil holder.
The section 18 is connected with one of the loops 8, 8 by means of the vertical section 12, the horizontal section 11 and the vertical section 10. The section 17 is connected with the other of the loops 8, 8 by means of the vertical section 12, the horizontal section 11 and the vertical section 10.
It will be noted, by reference to the drawings, that the vertical sections 10, 10 overlap each the other and form in conjunction with the extensions 12, 12, a rectangular frame portion to rest against the garment of the wearer, adding to the firmness of the structure in its friction with the said garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A pencil holder, comprising a body portion constructed of spring wire, having bent portions formed thereln at the top thereof; a straight rack bar formed below the said bent portions to form a back against which the said bent portions are adapted to press the article held; and a plurality of straight bars disposed behind the said bent portions in parallel relation to the said rack bar, to form a back against which the said bent portions are adapted to press the article held, said last mentioned bars forming relatively a pin and loop .of the safety pin type.
2. A pencil holder, comprising a spring wire having formed at one end thereof a sharpened pin and at the other end thereof a safety loop for receiving said pin, said wire being bent to form the said pin and said loop, and sections outwardly bent therefrom to form pockets for articles to be carried, a straight rack bar disposed below said bent portions and at the rear thereof, and interposed spring-like sections to form a rest for the holder upon the clothing of the wearer and to operate as springs for retracting the said bent portions toward the body of the wearer.
