Винахід належить до технології отримання хлорованих аліфатичних вуглеводнів, зокрема до способу отримання 1,2-діхлоретану. Спосіб отримання 1,2-діхлоретану шляхом каталітичної взаємодії етилену з хлором в реакційному середовищі при підвищеній температурі на каталізаторі, що складається з хлористого натрію і хлориду заліза (III), при молярному співвідношенні NaCl : FeCl3, рівному (0,05-0,48) : 1, з подальшим виділенням цільового продукту. Процес здійснюють при підтримці зазначеного молярного співвідношення хлористого натрію і хлориду заліза (III) постійним.
