顯示模組
本案是有關於一種電子模組。特別是有關於一種顯示模組。
典型的電子紙中包括容置於容置元件中的暗色粒子及白色粒子。暗色粒子及白色粒子帶有不同電性。當白色粒子聚攏於電子紙的觀看側(viewing side)時,白色粒子可反射投射於電子紙上的光線,以令電子紙呈現白色,又當暗色粒子聚攏於電子紙的觀看側時,暗色粒子可吸收投射於電子紙上的光線,以令電子紙呈現黑色。藉由如此操作,電子紙即可顯示影像。
電子紙雖具有省電的特性,然而其亦因色彩飽和度不足以及亮度不足的問題,而使得其應用受到限制。
因此,如何使電子紙得以更廣泛地應用,為當前急須解決的問題。
本發明的一態樣提供一種顯示模組。根據本發明 一實施例,該顯示模組包括一基板、一輔助顯示元件以及一電子紙顯示元件。該輔助顯示元件設置於該基板上。該電子紙顯示元件設置於該輔助顯示元件上。在一遮閉模式(shutter mode)中,該電子紙顯示元件大致呈一透明狀態,以令該輔助顯示元件所顯示的影像得以穿透該電子紙顯示元件,呈現於該顯示模組上。
根據本發明一實施例,在一一般模式中,該電子紙顯示元件大致呈一不透明狀態,且該電子紙顯示元件所顯示的影像呈現於該顯示模組上。
根據本發明一實施例,該電子紙顯示元件更包括複數個白色粒子、複數個暗色粒子以及至少二個側電極。在該遮閉模式中,該至少二個側電極分別吸引該些白色粒子以及該些暗色粒子,以令該電子紙顯示元件大致呈該透明狀態。
根據本發明一實施例,該輔助顯示元件區分為複數個第一像素,該電子紙顯示元件區分為複數個第二像素,且該些第一像素中至少一者的尺寸大致相等於該些第二像素中至少一者的尺寸。
根據本發明一實施例,該些第一像素與該些第二像素係錯開設置(mismatch)。

根據本發明一實施例,在一一般模式中,該電子紙顯示元件透過該上電極與該下電極分別吸引該些白色粒子以及該些暗色粒子,以令該使用者得以觀看該電子紙顯示元件所顯示的影像。

本發明的一實施態樣為一種顯示模組。第1圖為根據本發明一實施例繪示的一種顯示模組100的示意圖。
在本實施例中,顯示模組100包括基板110、輔助顯示元件120以及電子紙顯示元件130。輔助顯示元件120設置於基板110之上。電子紙顯示元件130設置於輔助顯示元件120之上。
在本實施例中,基板110可以是硬式基板或是可撓式基板。硬式基板例如是由玻璃、石英或矽晶圓等適當材質所實現,但不以此為限。可撓式基板例如是由塑膠、金屬箔(metal foil)或紙等適當材質所實現,但不以此為限。另一方面,在本實施例中,輔助顯示元件120例如是液晶顯示元件、主動式有機發光顯示元件等可主動發光的顯示元件所實現,但不以此為限。電子紙顯示元件130例如是電泳式顯示元件,但不以此為限。另外,電子紙顯示元件130例如是透過一黏合膠(未繪示)設置於輔助顯示元件120之上,但不以此為限。
在本實施例中,輔助顯示元件120與電子紙顯示元件130皆用以顯示影像。然而,輔助顯示元件120所顯 示的影像的色彩飽和度與亮度高於電子紙顯示元件130所顯示的影像的色彩飽和度與亮度。
是以,為了令使用者10得以依實際需要選擇性地決定觀看輔助顯示元件120或電子紙顯示元件130所顯示的影像,在本案實施例中,電子紙顯示元件130可選擇性地呈一大致透明狀態或顯示影像並呈一大致不透明狀態。
舉例而言,在一般模式中,電子紙顯示元件130顯示影像並呈一大致不透明狀態。如此一來,電子紙顯示元件130所顯示的影像即呈現於顯示模組100的觀看面(viewing plane)(例如是使用者10得以觀看的平面)上,且使用者10即得以觀看電子紙顯示元件130所顯示的影像。當注意到,於上述大致不透明狀態中,電子紙顯示元件130的透明度可依設計者的需求調整。電子紙顯示元件130可呈完全不透明或是大致不透明,以使使用者能看到電子紙顯示元件130顯示的影像,且看不到輔助顯示元件120所顯示的影像。
上述一般模式,例如可以是環境光較強的情況,或是顯示模組100正顯示文字文件的情況。在如此情況中,由於不需鮮豔的色彩,故使用者10可藉由電子紙顯示元件130觀看顯示模組100所顯示的內容。
另一方面,在遮閉模式(shutter mode)中,電子紙顯示元件130不顯示影像,並大致呈一透明狀態,以令輔助顯示元件120所顯示的影像得以穿透呈透明狀態的電子紙顯示元件130,呈現於顯示模組100的觀看面上。如此一 來,使用者10即得以透過電子紙顯示元件130觀看輔助顯示元件120所顯示的影像。當注意到,於上述的透明狀態中,電子紙顯示元件130的透明度可依設計者的需求調整。電子紙顯示元件130可呈完全透明或是大致透明狀態,以使輔助顯示元件120所顯示的影像得以穿透電子紙顯示元件130。
另一方面,上述遮閉模式,例如可以是環境光較弱的情況,或是顯示模組100正顯示電影、動畫等影像的情況。在如此情況中,由於所需色彩飽合度較高,故使用者10可藉由輔助顯示元件120觀看顯示模組100所顯示的內容。
在一實施例中,於一般模式下,輔助顯示元件120可為待機或休眠並且不顯示影像,以降低顯示模組100的耗能。
另外,在一實施例中,於一般模式下,輔助顯示元件120亦可仍然顯示影像,以提供電子紙顯示元件130背光。
在一實施例中,電子紙顯示元件130例如是直接設置於輔助顯示元件120上,而不需另外設置於其它基板上。如此一來,可減少顯示模組100的尺寸,並能降低顯示模組100的製造成本。
在一實施例中,輔助顯示元件120包括複數個以矩陣排列的第一像素122,且電子紙顯示元件130包括複數個以矩陣排列的第二像素132。在此實施例中,電子紙顯示 元件130的第二像素132的尺寸小於輔助顯示元件120的第一像素122的尺寸,以使得第二像素132與第一像素122彼此錯開設置。如此一來,可避免輔助顯示元件120與電子紙顯示元件130所發出的光線產生干涉或繞射。然而,第二像素132的尺寸與第一像素122的尺寸不以上述為限。
參照第2圖,在一實施例中,電子紙顯示元件130的第二像素132的尺寸大致相等於輔助顯示元件120的第一像素122的尺寸。然而,第二像素132與第一像素122彼此錯開設置,避免輔助顯示元件120與電子紙顯示元件130所發出的光線產生干涉或繞射。
以下將透過第3A圖與第3B圖,進一步說明電子紙顯示元件130的具體結構,然而本案不以以下實施例為限。
特別參照第3A圖,在本實施例中,電子紙顯示元件130包括圖案化導電層CD、下電極LE、黏合層AD、電子墨水層EL、上電極UE、側電極SE。在本實施例中,側電極SE、上電極UE、下電極LE以及圖案化導電層CD例如是由銦錫氧化物(indium tin oxide,ITO)、銦鋅氧化物(indium zinc oxide,IZO)或其他透明導電材質所實現。
在本實施例中,圖案化導電層CD例如包括電晶體、資料線以及掃描線。下電極LE設置於圖案化導電層CD上,並電性連接圖案化導電層CD中的電晶體、資料線以及掃描線。黏合層AD設置於下電極LE之上。電子墨水層EL設置於上電極UE與下電極LE之間,並用以透過黏 合層AD黏合於下電極LE之上。
在本實施例中,電子墨水層EL包括容置元件CT(例如可用聚酸甲酯(polymethyl methacrylate,PMMA)、聚碳酸酯(polycarbonate,PC)、聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(polyethylene terephthalate,PET)等透光材料所實現)、透明介質液(transparent dielectric fluid)FD、白色粒子WP與暗色粒子BP。容置元件CT包括一封合部CT1以及一容置部CT2。
在本實施例中,容置部CT2可包括複數個微杯(microcup)。封合部CT1可設置於容置部CT2的微杯的開口處,以封合(seal)容置部CT2的微杯,並形成一容置空間CS。
透明介質液FD、白色粒子WP與暗色粒子BP皆容置於容置空間CS。白色粒子WP與暗色粒子BP各自帶有不同電性。電子紙顯示元件130可藉由於上電極UE與下電極LE之間形成一垂直電場(vertical electric field),以吸引白色粒子WP或暗色粒子BP朝向於電子紙顯示元件130的觀看側(viewing side)(例如是接近上電極UE的一側),以顯示影像。
在本實施例中,側電極SE例如是分別設置於電子墨水層EL中的容置空間CS的兩側(例如是容置部CT2的微杯的側壁上)。設置於容置空間CS的兩側的側電極SE用以分別提供不同電壓,以形成水平電場(horizontal electric field),以在遮閉模式中分別吸引白色粒子WP與暗色粒子 BP朝向容置空間CS相應於側電極SE的兩側,以使電子紙顯示元件130呈大致透明狀態。
當注意到,設置有側電極SE的容置空間CS的兩側與鄰近上電極UE與下電極LE的容置空間CS的兩側彼此不同,因此設置於容置空間CS的兩側的側電極SE所形成的電場方向與上電極UE與下電極LE所形成的電場方向不同。在一實施例中,設置於容置空間CS的兩側的側電極SE所形成的電場方向大致垂直於上電極UE與下電極LE所形成的電場方向。
透過上述的設置,在一般模式中,電子紙顯示元件130透過上電極UE與下電極LE分別吸引白色粒子WP以及暗色粒子BP,以令電子紙顯示元件130顯示影像。此時,電子紙顯示元件130呈大致不透明狀態,且側電極SE不提供電壓,以避免影響影像的顯示。如此一來,使用者10即得以觀看電子紙顯示元件130所顯示的影像。
另一方面,在遮閉模式中(例如參照第3B圖),設置於容置空間CS的兩側的側電極SE用以分別提供不同電壓,以在遮閉模式中分別吸引白色粒子WP與暗色粒子BP朝向容置空間CS的相應於側電極SE的兩側,以使電子紙顯示元件130呈大致透明狀態。此時,上電極UE與下電極LE不提供電壓,以避免影響電子紙顯示元件130的透明狀態。如此一來,使用者10即得以透過電子紙顯示元件130觀看輔助顯示元件120所顯示的影像。
當注意到,雖然在上述實施例以及第3A圖與第 3B圖中,是以微杯型(microcup)電子紙顯示元件130為例進行說明。然而,本案亦可應用視實際需求,應用微膠囊型(microcapsule)電子紙顯示元件或其它型式的電子紙顯示元件。本案中電子紙顯示元件130的形式不以上述實施例為限。
另外,在上述實施例中,雖然電子紙顯示元件130與輔助顯示元件120係形成於同一基板110上(即電子紙顯示元件130是直接設置於輔助顯示元件120上,而非設置於其它基板上),但本案不以上述實施例為限。於另一實施例中,亦可先各自製成電子紙顯示元件130與輔助顯示元件120(即分別形成電子紙顯示元件130與輔助顯示元件120於不同基板上),而後再將電子紙顯示元件130與輔助顯示元件120以黏合的方式結合,以形成顯示模組100。
雖然本案已以實施例揭露如上,然其並非用以限定本案,任何熟習此技藝者,在不脫離本案之精神和範圍內,當可作各種之更動與潤飾,因此本案之保護範圍當視後附之申請專利範圍所界定者為準。

Claims (10)

  1. 一種顯示模組,包括:一基板;一輔助顯示元件,設置於該基板上;以及一電子紙顯示元件,直接設置於該輔助顯示元件上,其中,在一遮閉模式中,該電子紙顯示元件大致呈一透明狀態,以令該輔助顯示元件所顯示的影像得以穿透該電子紙顯示元件,呈現於該顯示模組上,其中該電子紙顯示元件與該輔助顯示元件係形成於同一該基板上。
  2. 如請求項1所述之顯示模組,其中在一一般模式中,該電子紙顯示元件大致呈一不透明狀態,且該電子紙顯示元件所顯示的影像呈現於該顯示模組上。
  3. 如請求項1所述之顯示模組,其中該電子紙顯示元件更包括複數個白色粒子、複數個暗色粒子以及至少二個側電極,且在該遮閉模式中,該至少二個側電極分別吸引該些白色粒子以及該些暗色粒子,以令該電子紙顯示元件大致呈該透明狀態。
  4. 如請求項1所述之顯示模組,其中該輔助顯示元件區分為複數個第一像素,該電子紙顯示元件區分為複數個第二像素,且該些第一像素中至少一者的尺寸大致相等於該些第二像素中至少一者的尺寸。
  5. 如請求項4所述之顯示模組,其中該些第一像素與該些第二像素係錯開設置。
  6. 如請求項1所述之顯示模組,其中該輔助顯示元件區分為複數個第一像素,該電子紙顯示元件區分為複數個第二像素,且該些第二像素中至少一者的尺寸小於該些第一像素中至少一者的尺寸。
  7. 如請求項1所述之顯示模組,其中該輔助顯示元件為一主動式有機發光二極體顯示元件或為一液晶顯示元件。
  8. 一種顯示模組,包括:一基板;一輔助顯示元件,設置於該基板上;以及一電子紙顯示元件,直接設置於該輔助顯示元件上,該電子紙顯示元件包括:一上電極;一下電極;一電子墨水層,設置於該上電極與該下電極之間,包括:一容置空間;複數個白色粒子,容置於該容置空間之 中;以及複數個暗色粒子,容置於該容置空間之中;以及至少二側電極,分別設置於該容置空間的至少二側;其中,在一遮閉模式中,該至少二個側電極分別吸引該些白色粒子以及該些暗色粒子,以令一使用者得以透過該電子紙顯示元件觀看該輔助顯示元件所顯示的影像,其中該電子紙顯示元件與該輔助顯示元件係形成於同一該基板上。
  9. 如請求項8所述之顯示模組,其中在一一般模式中,該電子紙顯示元件透過該上電極與該下電極分別吸引該些白色粒子以及該些暗色粒子,以令該使用者得以觀看該電子紙顯示元件所顯示的影像。
  10. 如請求項8所述之顯示模組,其中該上電極與該下電極所形成的一第一電場方向大致垂直於該至少二側電極所形成的一第二電場方向。
