Description

無線傳輸/接收單元及其方法
本發明係關於無線數位通信。尤其是,本發明係關於具有地理位置可被決定之使用者設備之細胞網路與區域無線網路之間的交互作用及連接轉移(handoff)。
移動無線通信已經從主要以聲音為基礎之胞元電話中之封閉平台進步為內嵌於支援資料及聲音之多樣開放平台,例如智慧電話,網路電腦以及個人數位助理(PDAs)。不同型態的無線服務包括WLAN及細胞網路。當使用者想要在不熟悉的區域內於不同的服務之間切換時,很難決定可利用的網路服務。通常,使用者必須接觸無線服務提供者以決定在特定地理區域內有那些可用的服務。如果使用者在不同的地理區域內旅行,試圖決定那一地理區域內存在那一可用服務的負擔變得太大。
綜合說明
一種用於一細胞網路與一無線區域網路(WLAN)之間的無線傳輸及接收單元之交接的系統。WLAN與一細胞網路通訊且WTRU的位置被決定。WLAN的區域覆蓋區域被決定。當WTRU接近WLAN(13)的覆蓋區域時WTRU被通知WLAN(13)的存在。當WTRU位於WLAN(13)的覆蓋區域內時,WTRU從細胞網路交接至WLAN(13),且反之亦然。
本發明將參照所附圖式而被詳細描述,其中相同的標號始終代表相同的元件。本發明是關於具有地理位置可被 決定之使用者設備之無線通訊系統。尤其是,本發明是一種在細胞式系統與以他/她之位置為基礎之無線區域網路(WLAN)之間之交接的系統,反之亦然。使用者設備可為一細胞式移動電話或一無線PDA或一WLAN卡或這些的組合,例如具有WLAN卡的無線PDA。此後,任何此種使用者設備將被標示為一無線傳輸接收單元(WTRU)。WTRU之位置可以藉由數種建立的方法中的一種而被決定。例如,WTRU可以使用建置於GPS接收器內的建置而決定其本身的位置。第二種方法是使用以區域方法為基礎之網路。在以區域方法為基礎之網路中,網路使用AOA(angle of arrival,抵達角度)或TDOA(time difference of arrival;抵達時間差)技術或及它技術決定一WTRU之位置,藉此WTRU之位置的計算在基地台,點B或網路固定部份的任何地方由網路執行。在WLAN的情況中,此WLAN可以提供這些計算。在TDOA位置的時間距離中,WTRU建立與網路的通訊,而網路藉由知道傳輸及接收時間而決定位置。WTRU的訊號在不同的天線位置被接收。因為每一天線距離呼叫者不同的距離(通常),訊號在稍微不同的時間抵達。與天線位置相關的基地台接收器由原子時鐘同步並為內部訊號的潛伏期(latency)而被調整。此基地台接收器傳送呼叫者的通話及時間資料開啟至移動切換,其中時間被比較及計算以便產生呼叫者的緯度及經度。此技術需要來自至少三個不同天線位置的訊號時間資訊,但不需要WTRUs具有內部位置設備。第三種方法可以是混合GPS/網路位置方法,其中網 路協助WTRU比具有內建獨立GPS接收器有效率地決定其本身的位置。這是有利的,因為GPS訊號限制的可使用性。在任何情況中,其依循許多可用以決定WTRU位置的方法。每一種方法將產生具有評估誤差之相關差額的位置的評估。此WTRU的位置在所有時間對網路而言是已知的。
提供細胞及WLAN覆蓋的網路也具有覆蓋區域的地理位置。覆蓋區域的地理位置可以藉由知道細胞網路或WLAN的覆蓋區域以及知道細胞或WLAN傳輸器之地理位置而被網路計算。這方式讓網路可以決定覆蓋區域的地理位置。WTRU是能夠同時存取細胞網路及WLAN的雙模式裝置。WTRU週期性地傳送更新的位置至核網路。
如果具有含對細胞網路及無線LAN存取之WTRU之使用者移動經過一細胞網路並抵達沒有細胞覆蓋區域但具有WLAN覆蓋區域或相同使用者正移動經過也具有WLAN存取之細胞覆蓋區域網路的點,其可經由推播服務被告知WLAN覆蓋區域的存在。此推播的服務可以是任何應用層次觸發器,例如被呼叫(paged),SMS的使用。這將使得使用者能夠決定他/她是否要切換至WLAN。此切換決定可以基於許多因素,例如WLAN的成本,與細胞網路相較之下的WLAN的速度及資料處理量以及目前所使用應用的需求。
相同的技術可以被應用於當具有含對細胞網路及無線LAN存取之WTRU的使用者是位於WLAN內並具有切換至細胞網路之選擇的時候。
圖一係無線通訊系統之一般結構,其包括一細胞網路 10,一核網路11,一移動單元,例如無線傳輸及接收單元(WTRU)12,以及一WLAN 13。在許多情況中,細胞網路10將是核網路11的整體部份,而WLAN 13有時候也是核網路11的整體部份。WTRU 12經由與對WLAN 13傳輸用之射頻存取網路(RAN)10與核網路11通訊。此核網路路10可以是任何連接至細胞式射頻存取網路(RAN)(例如GSM RAN,IS-95 RAN,CDMA RAN或WCDMA RAN)之網路(類似IS-41核網路,GPRD IP核網路,或展開的GSM核網路)。WTRU 12能夠與細胞式射頻存取網路(RAN)10或不同的區域網路,例如WLAN 13,通訊。
此核網路11包括WLAN服務位置資料庫23以及方位比較裝置24。位置裝置26允許核網路11決定WTRUs 12的位置。
依據本發明,WTRU 12具有支援細胞網路10與WLAN 13之間的連接轉移的能力。WTRU 12包括一細胞網路裝置32,WLAN通訊裝置33,以及一連接轉移裝置34。或者是,WTRUs 12可以具有GPRS接收器35。
位置的決定可以由細胞10或核網路11執行,使用網路中已存在的位置資訊,或是藉由WTRU 12,例如使用GPS接收器35。WTRU 12的位置可以由使用來自WTRU 12的訊號而被決定。此訊號可以來自GPS接收器內之一建立,使用AOA(angle of arrival,抵達角度),TDOA(time difference of arrival;抵達時間差),混合GPS/網路位置方法,或任何其它方便的方法。此外,細胞服務位置資料庫27被提供,其包括細胞服務的覆蓋區域位置資訊而不是WLAN 13 覆蓋區域。WLAN服務區域資料庫23及細胞式服務位置資料庫27由方位比較裝置24與位置資訊匹配。資料庫的使用使得資料庫23,27內得資訊可以於移動能夠進行從WLAM至細胞網路之連接轉移時被使用。這允許與細胞網路之可使用性相關的資訊被推播經過WLAN 13。
如果WTRU 12決定位置,此位置被傳送至核網路11,例如藉由發送資訊的訊號。WLAN服務位置資料庫24包括與WLANs,例如WLAN 13的地理位置相關的資訊。WLAN 13與核網路11通訊並可以更新/修改WLAN服務位置資料庫的內容。WTRU 12包括一細胞式網路通訊裝置32,WLAN通訊裝置33以及一連接轉移裝置34用以協助核網路11與WLAN 13之間的連接轉移。方位比較裝置24使用WLAN服務位置資料庫23尋找服務WTRUs 12的被決定方位的WLANs。
在運作中,核網路11經由細胞射頻存取網路(RAN)10與WTRU 12通訊,例如基地台25。做為通訊功能的一部份,核網路11可以提供連接轉移資訊,其包括以WTRUs的位置為基礎之WLAN 13的可使用性。
在配置中,WTRU 12提供來自GPS接收器35的方位資料給核網路11。此方位資料指示WTRU 12的位置。此資訊被提供給方位比較裝置24,其比較WTRU 12的方位與已知的區域無線網路之服務區域,例如WLAM 13,以及核網路11的基地台25WLAN服務位置資料庫23提供與這些區域無線網路之射頻覆蓋區域相關之對應資料。
進一步的資訊,例如價格,速度,服務的存在以及 WLANs的可使用覆蓋區域也被提供給WTRU 12。有效地,此資訊藉由推播(push)對使用者的通訊而被提供,例如所指示的藉由推播服務裝置36。「推播通訊」意於描述資訊的規定,稱為「推播(push)」服務,而不具有使用者於該時間特別要求的資訊。為說明,網路11識別一WTRUs附近內之一WLAN 13。網路11傳送WLAN 13的報價以及速度資訊給WTRU 12。WTRU 12的使用者可以決定是否想要使用WLAN 13,或可以於WLAN服務的有效性的通知時在「作業中(on the fly)」被選擇。在預先決定是否接受一連接轉移時,使用者可以預先編輯連接轉移資訊的程式,如方塊37所指,其將儲存使用者預先選擇的標準於記憶體38內。
同樣地,也可能有使用者希望結束通訊或結束通訊的特定型態,當離開WLAN的覆蓋區域時。一個例子是免費或低成本的服務的使用,例如高頻寬的資料傳輸,或是區域聲音通訊服務的供應。因此,WLAN 13最好能夠通知WTRU,當WLAN服務將失去連結,或存在對核網路11之一連接轉移。較佳者,使用者可以在連接轉移至核網路11之後拒絕繼續服務,且較好的是使用者可以在連接轉移之前決定是否接受連接轉移。
核網路11另外可以提供資訊至WLAN 13以協助交接,例如指示WTRU 12可以能夠接收來自WLAN 13的訊號的資訊。在交接之後,WLAN 13也可以提供「推播」服務。這些服務可以被持續提供。此種資訊可以包括購物資訊,或與WLAN 13內之方向相關的資訊。移動的使用者可以選擇 接收此資訊。為說明,使用者可以開啟一WLAN特徵,WTRU 12能夠接收WLAN資訊而不需要要求它。WLAN服務位置資料庫23的提供以及細胞服務位置資料庫27提供關於WLAN與細胞服務之間的連接轉移的有效性。此資料庫資訊也可藉由經過WLAN或細胞網路傳送至WTRU的「推播」而被提供給WTRU 12。
WTRU 12可能提供資訊給WLAN 13,當WTRU 12是由WLAN 12服務時。任何WTRU 12提供位置資訊至WLAN 13時,或WLAN 13決定WTRU 12的位置時,WTRU 12的位置資訊被WLAM 13在核網路11內更新。此資訊被核網路11內之方位比較裝置24為從WLAN至細胞網路之的連接轉移而被使用,如果需要的話。
參照圖二,WTRU 12穿過細胞網路10。此WTRUs的方位被追蹤。WLAN邊界62是藉由網路11之已知的明文密文對(priori)或由WLAN 13提供。因此,核網路11知道WTRU 12目前的位置或大約的位置以及WLAN 13的覆蓋區域。如所見,來自WTRU 12的資訊被提供給核網路11,其中WTRU 12週期性地更新核網路11有關WTRU 12的位置。同樣可見,WLAN 13提供資訊給核網路11。此資訊可以包括WLAN 13的覆蓋區域以及由WLAN 13所提供的服務等資訊。核網路11提供關於WLAN 13網路存在的資訊給WTRU 12。從核網路至WTRU 12的資訊可以是「推播」資訊。
當WTRU 12移動穿過由WLAN 13服務的地理區域時,服務WTRU 12的細胞網路10通知WLAN 13的存在給WTRU 12, 例如藉由使用細胞網路10的「推播」服務。使用者隨後可以選擇換網路,從細胞網路10切換至WLAN 13。
在如圖三所示的另一步驟中,網路之間的切換可以自動進行。在圖三,細胞RAN 10不再存在於WTRU 12所朝向之地理區域。
如所見,來自WTRU 12的資訊被提供給核網路11,其中WTRU 12週期地更新核網路11有關WTRU 12的位置。同時,也可見的是,WLAN 13提供資訊至核網路11此資訊可以包括WLAN 13的覆蓋區域以及由WLAN 13所提供之服務的資訊,以及提供有關WLAN 13網路存在的資訊給WTRU 12。從核網路至WTRU 12的資訊可以是「推播」資訊。如圖二所示,細胞RAN 10具有覆蓋區域61。WLAN 13具有覆蓋區域62,其部份在核網路覆蓋區域61之外部。如果核網路11決定WTRU 12的方位在WLAN覆蓋區域62之內,核網路11能夠通知WLAN服務的有效性給WTRU 12。當WTRU 12離開核網路11的地理覆蓋區域61時,WTRU 12被提供識別與WLAN區域61相關的WLAN 13的資訊給WTRU 12。於此步驟中,到WLAN 13的交接可以被執行而不需要移動使用者的知識。或者是,移動使用者可以經由「推播」服務被宣傳而決定目前的無線服務是否由WLAN 13丟掉或支援,可能在額外的成本下。如果WTRU是GPS致能或被提供位置資訊,WTRU可以直接決定是否啟動交接的執行。
使用「推播」服務的優點在於,在應用層次中,使用者可以選擇切換網路與新服務有關的成本及速度資訊可以 被提供為被推播給使用者的資訊的部份。這些成本可以便變化並依據服務提供者的網路內的使用者的數目或其它標準而定。此「推播」服務允許使用者在所有的時間具有最新的資訊。

Claims (12)

  1. 一種於一無線傳輸/接收單元(WTRU)中使用的方法,該方法包括:經由一蜂巢射頻存取網路(RAN)來傳遞一資料;經由該蜂巢RAN來發送指示出該WTRU的一位置的一資訊;經由該蜂巢RAN來接收與在該WTRU的該位置的一無線區域網路(WLAN)有關的一資訊;決定執行到該WLAN的一換手;以及執行到該WLAN的該換手。
