Abstract
A process for producting isopropyl alcohol through direct liquid phase hydration of propylene and water in the presence of a strongly acidic solid catalyst at a high temperature under a high pressure comprising the following steps: (1) supply of propylene and water for stuffing or suspension of solid catalyst for such reactions in the reaction recipients in at least 1 Mohr of water for 1 Mohr of propylene in reaction and at a temperature in a range between 100o and 250oC under a pressure in a range between 60 and 200 atm; (2) continuous reaction of the recipient for extraction of mixture with a gas and liquid phase; (3) supply of gas phase reaction mixture fo the distillation tower for removal of impurities consisting propane in the raw material or propylene for the collection of propylene without reaction from the top of the tower and the recycle of the reacted propylene into the reaction recipient; (4) contact of liquid phase reaction mixture with an extraction agent formed of a saturated hydrocarbon having 3 or 4 carbonatoms at a temperature in a range between the critical temperature of the extraction agent and the temperature 40oC higher than the critical pressure of the extraction agent and 200 atm at a ratio ranging between 0.3 and 3 S/F calculated from the equation of the amount of the extraction agent divided by the amount of the raw material; (5) recycle of extracted liquid (made of water); and (6) separation of the isopropyl alcohol and high density solution from saturated extraction phase for purified solution and purified isopropyl alcohol.
