Fabrikada veya santiyede/arzide tatbik edilen korozyonu önleyici bir kaplama dogrudan veya dolayli bir biçimde bir araya birlestirilen en az iki küçük organik polimerik tabaka ihtiva eder. Sözü geçen tabakalardan bir birincisi 23 C'de %100 nisbi rutubette 0.005 ila 10g.mm/m2/24 saat degerindeki bir su buhari geçirgenligine sahiptir.Sözü geçen tabakalardan ikincisi 23 C'de %50 nisbi rutubette 0.01 ila 10 cm3.mm/m2/24 saat atmosfer degerindeki bir oksijen geçirgenligine; ve/veya 23 C'de % 50 nisbi rutubette 0.01 ila 30cm3.mm/m2/24saat.atmosfer degerindeki bir karbon dioksit geçirgenligine sahiptir.Bu kaplamalar korozyonun büyük çapta geciktirilmesine yarayabilir ve karbondioksit bariyer malzemesi sikkinda da yüklemeli korozyon çatlamasini büyük çapta azaltabilir.
