Abstract

In a process for the continuous impregnation of a nonwoven or needle felt web 2, which has a thickness of 1 to 10 mm and a porosity between 50% and 97%, with an activation solution containing noble metal on the basis of palladium/tin for the purpose of subsequent metallization, the web 2 is fed to the activation solution at a rate of advancement of 1 to 10 m/min and to be in contact with the activation solution for a maximum of 120 min, and submerged from above into the activation solution, at the moment of submersion of the web into the activation solution there being an excess of fresh activation solution on both sides and this excess corresponding volumetrically to at least 5 times the volume of the pore volume of the web to be filled in that particular case. Uniform activation is achieved. <IMAGE>
