Abstract
A plastics melt consisting mainly of thermoplastics, cell formers and a foaming agent, and if applicable pigments, is extruded around the wire which is continuously fed into the extrusion die (2), the said wire having been cooled upstream of the die head to below room temperature and is kept cool in passing through the die head by a surrounding cooling chamber means (3,4) until coming into contact with the said plastics melt within the die (2). The wire so formed finds application in tying up plants. Alternatively, electrically conductive wires insulated with foamed plastics can be formed by this method. <IMAGE>
