Abstract
The system contains a tone wheel sensor device for detecting the passage of a piston or a group of pistons through the top dead centre (tdc). Pulse shaping circuits are connected to this sensor device, which circuits generate on-off output signals with two successive level circuits, which are separated from one another by a time interval which is proportional to the speed of the engine, such a signal being generated each time a piston or a group of pistons passes through the top dead centre (or through a point at a predetermined angular distance before or after the top dead centre). The system also contains an electronic processing and control unit, which undertakes automatic advanced ignition control. When the engine is started up, the storage of energy in the ignition coils commences in conformity with the first switching of the signal generated by the pulse shaping circuits. At the second switching of the signal relating to this piston or this group of pistons, an ignition command is emitted. In this way the engine angle of rotation prior to the first ignition in the starting phase is minimised.
