Abstract

The invention relates to the field of metallurgy and is applicable to the manufacture of ferritic electric resistance wire. The aim of the invention consists in the economical manufacture of high-quality electric resistance wire. The object on which the invention is based is to simplify the manufacturing technology substantially and design it in such a way that production disorders are limited as far as possible, the drawing-die wear is reduced and the material properties of the starting material are not influenced. According to the invention, the starting material is first reduced to an intermediate dimension of less than 7 mm and then coated, without the application of a lubricant substrate, with a homogeneous solid lubricant film which does not contain any components which impair the life of the heat-conducting material. The material is subsequently drawn into the finishing-pass region in a multi-stage dry-drawing process, the degree of reduction being greater than 30% in the first stage. Finally, the wire is drawn down to its final diameter in a finishing pass, avoiding the customary cleaning and annealing processes.
