Abstract
An air control valve 10 for use in a vehicle emissions control system includes an inlet 16, a pair of outlets 18, 20, and a valve mechanism 22 which normally permits communication from the inlet 16 to one of the outlets 18, but which is actuable to another condition which permits communication from the inlet 16 to the other outlet 20. The valve mechanism 22 is actuated by one of a pair of opposing fluid motors 44, 58. The fluid motors 44, 58 are designed so that the pressure forces acting on the valve member 34 also act on the fluid motors 44, 58 in such a way that the effect of the pressure forces on the valve member 34 is cancelled. Therefore, the size of the actuating fluid motor may be reduced, since it need only overcome the inertia and spring forces acting on the valve mechanism. <IMAGE>
