Abstract

1523893 Centrifugal pumps NIKKISO CO Ltd 20 Aug 1975 [13 March 1975 (3)] 34529/75 Heading F1C In a pump comprising an impeller preceded by an axial-flow inducer coaxial with the impeller, axial counterflows in the fluid flowing from the pump inlet to the impeller are confined to the downstream side of the inlet so as to reduce noise caused by such counterflows. The first part 16a, Fig. 6, of the inducer is of smaller pitch than the second part 16b whereby fluid flowing back from the main impeller 14 is recirculated through the second part. An annular barrier 22 may be provided to cause fluid flowing back past the first inducer part 16a to be recirculated via the inducer. The axial distance between the inducer parts 16a, 16b, is equal to 0À85 to 0À95 times the inducer diameter. In the pump shown in Fig. 7, the inducer parts differ in diameter, the diameter of the part 16b being 0À9 to 0À97 times the diameter of the part 16a. As before fluid flowing back from the main impeller 14 is recirculated through the inducer part 16b. A sleeve 26 may be secured to the front end of the inducer part 16a, return flow originating in front of the inducer being deflected as shown by an annular flange 28. The part 16b of smaller diameter may be omitted, Figs. 1-3 (not shown).
